I've been playing through the science adventure VN series, its been pretty good so far; I started on Chaos;head because it was the first in the series, it was a pretty good mystery VN with a dash of pseudo-science to wrap it all up. It had some good twists in the story, and the delusion system means it's a bit more replayable, though I most likely won't be bothered to replay it ever again. Chaos;Head Noah has more routes and an expanded ending, but I'm not sure it's translated yet. One other problem is that Takumi didn't seem to be the main character of the story until the very end, you'd just be dropping into other people's stories for the most part.
I played Steins;gate not long after that, I enjoyed Chaos;head slightly more just due to the story and soundtrack I suppose, but I liked Okabe's character a lot more because he developed over time instead of right at the end like with Takumi. Not really much else to say about this since I don't remember much of it.
For now I'm on Steins;Gate 0, there's a lot of different routes that split off between a single point in the story, so it's a bit of slog to go back and play from there, however each route is quite different, so there's no repetition at least, I preferred the singular stories of the previous sci;adv entries though, as I haven't really had the motivation to finish the last two routes and get it all over for the past month though.
Is Steins;Gate 0 worth buying on the Vita? Or should I pirate it?
0 isn't as good as the original in my opinion, some of the characters (without giving too much away) are useless and don't really have a place in the story, some of the routes are boring and don't end quickly enough, when they do, it isn't very satisfying.
I haven't gotten to the true end yet, but I've heard it isn't very satisfying either.
It really depends on whether you'd like to own the game physically or if you're just in it for the story. It's definitely worth the play however, even though it may sound like shit from this post.
Attractive tall dark skinned silver-haired elf ladies…
Are you a fan or do you hate them?
What is so special about elves? They're just tall humans with stupid ears in my eyes.
They often are portrayed as a nobler, idealized human when it comes to their behavior. It's not just the body.
Elves are superior to stinky humans

Also here is Maho-tan's butt
Is this an official image?
Yes I just got to it on my final route, the art can be a bit iffy sometimes, I think the original steins;gate had a better style, but it's still alright.

Stop playing bad strategy games and start role playing as close as possible to the admin
East Turkestan? Why there?
It's the closest location on the map to Japan, which is where she lives! Also the admin is shy and prefers to be isolated from the rest of the world. CUTE!
I only play nukige but here is the stuff:
Who's this elmo looking motherfucker
Good thing it's daytime otherwise that would have spooked my harder than losing to Cirno for the first time
What the hell is up with this main menu design choice ZUN
I wonder if the flower master of the four seasons will make an appearance.
ZUN still manages to surprise every time. Say what you will, the guy isn't getting stagnant!
What do you mean? It doesn't look much different from the usual to me. The in-game screen, on the other hand, looks way better than LoLK's.
Speaking of which, I'm especially excited that he said this one will be, basically, "just a good old simple STG with no gimmicks". Especially after LoLK, I'm sure a lot of people are craving exactly that. This one seems like it's shaping up to be a fun, straightforward game with a bright, cheerful atmosphere and plot free of Lunarian tricks, so my hype is unbounded as of now, but we'll see in a couple of weeks whether the demo version can deliver.>>19646

Persona 5 is so goddamn good
>>19648>Speaking of which, I'm especially excited that he said this one will be, basically, "just a good old simple STG with no gimmicks".
A. He did not say this. He just said it'll be simpler than recent games. Screenshots indicate there is a new mechanic being introduced (note the bar in the bottom-left)
B. He said something similar about DDC.
Nice try, Pedant-san, but you're not going to rain on my parade that easily.
First of all, 14 is not particularly gimmicky. Where are the twists? In five cards between two bosses, and in one shot type per character. The core mechanics of the game, the stage design, two-thirds of the stage bosses, and half the shot types are all simple and traditional. There's no bizarre resource system like 12, no lack of classic shot types like 11, no mechanics that require extra keys like 13, no pile of interlocking mechanics like 8, not even anything like the power-as-bombs system from 10 and 11. It was about as vanilla as you could get without returning to the extreme simplicity of the early Windows days.
Secondly, the meter visible in that screenshot says nothing about how complicated or gimmicky this one will be. Of course there's a "new mechanic" being introduced; every single game after 6 has had something unique. And of course he means that the game will be simple relative to recent ones, not compared to them all, because nobody wants a game as bare-bones as 6 again. We already knew that much, even before the announcement. As for what the meter actually is, who knows? It could be a simple as 10's meter, that just keeps track of how much point items are worth.
In any case, I'm sure there will be some novel elements. Aya and Cirno will probably have some unusual shot types, there will probably be some small twist on the resource system, and I'd even bet that stage 4 will have some cool character-dependent boss tied to the seasonal theme. Those kind of twists, I look forward to. As long as the core mechanics are mostly traditional, I'll consider ZUN's promise kept, and be happy.
Tan Cirno is the reason I'm killing myself
What's the problem? It's cute!

I finished Pokemon Moon a few weeks ago. The ending was a bit bittersweet with it just being Lillie leaving, but it was a good game. Probably the best Pokemon game I've played in a while.
Tan Cirno looks pretty weird to be honest with you but then again nobody ever accused ZUN of having good and consistent art.
I'm weirded out by her
Not everybody likes brown girls, Cirno!

I play them.
I beat perfect cherry blossom on hard plus the extra stages and have beat mountain of faith on hard about 2 weeks ago. It's been 10 years since it came out so I wanted to try to beat it properly, and I did. I still have to go through Suwako but I'll take my time. I tried to beat embodiment of scarlet devil on its 10th anniversary as well but failed.
My problem is that I'm too proud and stubborn to use bombs, so I lose lives stupidly. My perfect cherry blossom run was going awful up until Alice when I decided to just bomb my way through whatever problem. I haven't beat EoSD for the same reason. Mountain of faith, I finally beat after using bombs on Aya's stage. I also beat subterranean animism (my favourite) on hard as well as Koishi using the Marisa+Nitori combo, which worked along nicely because that combo's bombs doesn't actually clear the screen unless you get hit by a projectile. I think it's the weakest, least effective bomb in the game but the cool factor of Marisa+Nitori was too strong for me to change to something else. Plus, the fact the bomb only worked when you get hit made me less privy about using bombs. It's like an instant deathbomb. Of course, Orin was an absolute nightmare with this combo.
I've tried playing UFO but something about that game turns me off. The music feels unfinished (just listen to the second stage's song) and the graphics make me feel lazy. It's really hard to explain but that game hasn't grown on me at all.
I haven't touched any game after Ten Desires because there's already so many I haven't beat yet. I tried fairy wars but it's too gimmicky for my liking. The fighters up to hisoutensoku are fine but I didn't focus on them. The rest of the fighter, hopeless masquerade up, are a floaty messy disappointment.
I've also played a couple of third party doujin games.
You're supposed to use bombs though, they're there for a reason.
I enjoy playing them, but I remain pretty bad (I can only beat them on easy or normal mode).
I actually prefer the pc98 era games.
Those are the only ones I can play on higher difficulties.
Yeah, I'm bad too — only four Hard clears ever, and I probably couldn't do them again. It's fine, though. The only difference between a clear on Normal and a clear on Lunatic is bragging rights, so if you're just playing for your own enjoyment, it doesn't really matter.>>19662
Suwako's is a great extra stage, and not just because it's dead easy and makes you feel super cool for clearing it.
It is anime/otaku now, so you could argue games are otaku related.
Because /a/ and /v/ are the same board.
But /z/ is 2D/Everything and video games fall under everything.>>20143>/a/ and /v/ are the same board
http://samachan.org/v/>404 Not Found
I also want to know what the point of separating /a/ from /z/ is if the video games thread is getting moved to /a/.
/v/ is closer to /z/ in the alphabet after all.
only if read the alphabet from left to right
Pretty sure they'd still be closer to each other if read from zed to a.
You fucking brits always doing stupid shit with your language. Why would you spell out "zed?" Should I type w out as double-yu?
The videogame threads have always been on /a/, even when /z/ and /a/ existed concurrently. Sage for off topic.
Pretty sure "W" is literally "double u", as in it's originally just two u's written side by side.
Its double "v" but he means spelling out the pronunciation instead of just typing the letter
here, getting the thread back on track.
I just played Hisoutensoku again, I forgot how much fun those ones are, too.
I don't like fighting games much, but I always enjoy those ones when I play them (IaMP and SWR are inluded)
it's double "u" if you write it cursive

TH16 demo is out!
I'll need a bit of time to write a proper post about it, but my initial impressions are very good. You should all try it!
The most amazing thing to me is that Zun hasn't gotten any better at drawing after all of these years.

Alright, time for opinions.
Firstly, the main menu screen. The theme is relatively chill and kind of spacey; I really like it. Combined with the bright colors of the background, the whole thing feels sort of refreshing, doubly so in comparison to LoLK. Moving into gameplay, all of the shot types seem passable (at least for the first three stages), and the mix-and-match approach adds a lot of choices, which should be fun to explore more. The unique mechanic is a little heftier than I predicted here >>19651
, but not disruptive at all. My only worry so far is that it may make the game too easy. I was able to easily beat the whole demo on my first try, admittedly on Normal, but also as someone who mostly plays on Normal and is fairly rusty. However, there seems to be a significant difference between Normal and Hard, no doubt because these difficulties were actually properly balanced and not warped around an ill-advised gimmick. All the danmaku was fine, nothing really noteworthy except some stage 3 curvy lasers. All the girls are cute. All the music is good, though again, nothing really jumped out at me other than the title theme. Without any translations, that's about all I can say for now: the game looks like a fun, standard, taking-it-easy breath of fresh air after LoLK. The new mechanics feel different and unique without being overbearing. I'm satisfied.
>>20320>nothing really jumped out at me other than the title theme
Stage 1 theme is, as usual, a big highlight.
Butterfly fairy's theme is also fun.
>The new mechanics feel different and unique
Really? Feels like a mish-mash of stuff we had before. Not that I'm complaining or anything…
The individual components are all fairly orthodox, but the way they work together and are nicely tied into the flavor makes them really stand out in my opinion. I'd liken the whole seasonal system to the Trance mechanic from 13 in terms of enjoyability, but it's also more tied in with the shot types and doesn't mess with the resource system as much, making it better in other ways.
Fuck Touhou games, somebody start drawing more porn with the new characters quickly my man.
I will not draw porn of these characters
That's pretty lewd~
Jesus Christ cover yourself up woman!
I finished Persona 5 today. It was pretty fucking good. It improved on the gameplay aspects of 3/4 entirely, and the environments were amazing. The world felt great to move around in, and it was extremely immersive. I ended up clocking 104 hrs into the game, and was sad when it was over.
Spoilers: I wouldn't say its the best Persona game story wise, however. The themes behind Persona 3 and 4 were much more poignant in what they did, Persona 3 especially. The "Seven Deadly Sins" theme of Persona 5 was ultimately too lacking for the themes the game could've had. It was a bit disappointing, but it didn't detract from my enjoyment of the game. I still feel like storywise, Persona 3 is the best in the series.
Outside of that, however, I thought most of the cast was enjoyable. I really liked Morgana Futaba, and Sojiro the best, and I really really enjoyed the stuff you got for doing the S Links that you could use while Phantom Thieving. The cast was great and I'll definitely look forward to the spinoffs that will feature them.
It was really touching to me when Morgana decided to stay with the MC. I just really enjoyed Morgana as a character. He's like Koromaru and Teddie combined, except he wasn't annoying during the story.
When does the full game come out?
Summer Comiket, as usual.
Sweet, not much longer then. Should make for a good time when its finally released and translated.

it's a little old, but I picked up Atelier Escha & Logy on a whim and found it was actually one of the funnest games I've played in a while. Too bad the true ending only comes after you've played through as both characters, though…
Aside from that, Persona 5 was the tits, but 3's still my favorite

When they inevitably do a splatfest between Marina and Pearl it's going to be so one sided. I've hardly seen anyone who prefers Pearl. I think it's just universally agreed that Pearl is worst girl
I think Pearl fans will be exactly like Marie fans, obnoxious and somehow win every Splatfest

I downloaded the Splatoon 2 demo. Was good enough fun walking around, but nothing to do once you saw everything. It'll be a lot of fun when the testfire comes around, though.
Also, I really don't like how you have to have a social media account to post pictures to the internet. Really stupid feature.

Yeah, Japan and japanese media is the topic of this site after all.
What game did you want to talk about?
Civilization, was just wondering since I didn't know Splatoon was a Japanese game.
Play as Oda Nobunaga and unite the world. Surely the mods can't bitch then. It is not like people didn't already post about Swedish games >>19636>>19637
That is super well animated, holy crap. I wish Flipnote Hatena was still around.
Yeah it is. If only real anime looked that good.
it can, if you are willing to finance the small fortune required to pay for 20x12 minutes of quality sakuga.

Can't say that Persona 5 DSN was a surprise, but the P3 dancing game definitely was. Between PQ2, these and the Persona 5 anime, it's definitely a good time to be a fan of Persona (or a bad time if you don't like spinoffs and milking of franchises.)
Anyone here looking forward to any of these?
File: 1499062597957.jpg (469.24 KB, 640x1000) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
I am going to start emulating P3 and then P4 soon. I can't wait to play 5 so that I can talk about it with everyone.
Do you have any tips for someone new to Persona?
I've only played P5 but here are my tips:
- Don't look for tips online.
That's it. The game goes over everything you need to know, and a lot of the fun comes from planning out what you'll do next, and figuring out a successful strategy on your own. I feel this way about almost all games, but P5 especially. Admittedly I've looked up a few things myself, but mostly minor things like the effects of reading a certain book or answers to classroom question (the game basically has a built-in method of doing this).
Ok that's not it, I have one more tip:
- Don't use fast travel much
If you walk everywhere you'll have more opportunities to listen in on conversations and buy items you might otherwise not have. Again I don't like using fast travel in most games because it breaks immersion but there's less of an excuse to fast travel in P5 since it doesn't take very long to go from one end of the map to the other.
Start with Persona 3.
Don't look anything up on the internet. Don't stress about doing every social link, and try to self insert. Think about how you would approach situations. Again, don't stress about social links and not being able to do them all. Just play the game and enjoy it.
Indeed, I miss the arts of Kazuma Kaneko and the dark, grim and gritty older Megaten entries. Not taking anything away from the newer games, they are still good but different.
More like Persona "Huh?" and "Who?", amirite?
How are the girls so far?
cute or smelly?
File: whaddafug.png (249.59 KB, 580x880) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Now that you mention it, the stage 4 boss does look a little smelly. But I actually think Not-not-Benben and Not-not-not-Benben are pretty cute, in a plain sort of way.
File: th16_011.jpg (885.2 KB, 1280x960) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Finally, another Extra that's so simple and theatrical, even I can beat it. Although apparently it's one of the most difficult to NN(N), which is pretty neat.
Now do it on Lunatic mode.
If I trained for months, I MIGHT be able to do one of NM, NB, or NR. But at my skill level, it's more about box ticking than real achievements or scoring; "Yep, cleared the extra with that character, good enough, time to move on."
That's fine though, I'm mostly in it for the story anyway.
Why is MGR so great?

Anyone here playing the trial for the new Gundam vs? I've been playing it almost all afternoon and really enjoying it. I played a few that were on PSP when I was younger but this one just blows those out of the water, both visually and mechanically. If you have a PS4 and like gundam its definitely worth a shot. I've been looking forward to a Hat in Time ever since I first heard about it back in 2013. I loved the Gamecube Era of platformers, and I try to play through Super Mario Sunshine every few summers because it's such a great game.
If you enjoy Gamecube-esque platforming and general aesthetics of the early to middle 00's, I can't recommend a Hat in Time enough.
yeah, A Hat in Time is simply wonderful
it's like someone scooped out all those babies video games have been throwing with their bathwater for over a decade
What do you do in this game?
Is it just jumping about and collecting things like in most platformers?
Also the girl is really really cute post more of her
Yeah, jumping around, collecting things, and completing the objective like in Super Mario 64/Sunshine. Each level has its own little mini-story but you're basically free to roam around and collect stuff.
It's a hell of a lot of fun, would definitely recommend it, especially if you don't have a Switch and can't get Odyssey yet.
Super Mario Odyssey arrived at my house today.
Anyone else playing it?
And if not, anyone else want my first impressions of it?

Nobody asked me to but I'm gonna do it anyways
I'm enjoying Mario Odyssey!
I was a little hesitant at first but I'm really getting into it now. It's closer to Banjo Kazooie plus Mario Sunshine than just a traditional "64/Sunshine" Mario, but it lends itself to the format well. The levels are pretty big, and there's a lot of collectables to find and discover. Over all, so far I'd recommend the game.
