Well, winter is coming soon, so I may as well make a thread. What're you looking forward to in the winter?
Personally I'm looking at Overlord II, Dagashi Kashi II, Violet Evergarden, Citrus, Karakai Jouzu, and Mitsuboshi Colors.
Especially the last two, they feel like they'll be really heartwarming if they don't completely botch it up.

I'm really excited, it's shaping up to be my busiest season in years! Even if I end up dropping all the 'maybes', it'll still be above average.

Antarctica Girls is probably the most likely to be disappointing, since the PV makes it seem like Antarctica is just a sort of macguffin and it's really all a metaphor for growing up or whatever, which makes it a toss-up for me. Based on the writer and director, I'm not super hopeful, but it might be okay.
Violet Evergarden is from the same director as Kyoukai no Kanata, but I'm gonna roll the dice on it anyway. It looks fairly serious in tone, so with any luck that means it won't stray too far into obnoxious LN trope territory.
Killing Bites is there just because I want to see a honey badger girl in action.
And I'm curious to see if Shaft does anything interesting with Fate/Extra, or if it'll just be a shit generic cash-in.

Aside from that, all the other maybes just looked okay enough to give three episodes.

>Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san

It's more of the opposite, less of the idea that ramen is not a girl's thing but more the idea that ramen is a man's thing. Especially the likes of jiro ramen. And I think it's more common for females to eat with company though it's not strictly the case.

I haven't read it, but the description on MAL makes it sound kind of fun. Kind of like a fighting manga with cooking instead of kung fu. How much does it actually focus on the food? One of the things I really enjoy about the genre is the food porn, and also learning about dishes I might not have heard of before.

>MAL
Oh get real you gaijin, why MAL ffs
Anyway it focuses heavily on the food, one of the consultants for the manga is a very cute sexy owner chef who runs a cooking show on national television, all of the dishes are either real or workable, and it teaches you some actual legitimately used tricks in real professional cooking. In the tankobans there's even recipe pages for the signature dishes made during that arc (this stops later, presumably because the dishes later on become so complex or dependent on 'touch' / precision that anyone who needs a recipe from manga won't be able to make it).
I recommend you read the manga, it's drawn by TOSH (yeah the former h-artist), the anime is okay but it's one of those cases where it simply does not do the manga justice.

 No.23602

>>23598
That sounds pretty cool. I may check it out.

 No.23611

>>23602
It doesn't seem useful to me at all. If you watch the anime then you probably have it downloaded anyhow and if not you can always use a straight up text file to keep track of your anime
If you read manga then even if you don't download, places like batoto and kissmanga, mangapark, etc. have 'followed' manga.
Either way I guess.

>so it's sexy, right?

There's a good deal of fanservice but more importantly the art is very very good, especially later on with the full-body portraits.

It's one of the biggest culinary manga of the time alongside Oishinbo and Cooking Papa but it's the one that introduces and influences the more exaggerated side of the genre that can be found in the likes of Shokugeki no Souma, unlike the other two which focuses on realism.

It might not have "aged well" for the modern viewers as the other posters mentioned but if you are into older stuffs then it's definitely worth a look. There are still tons of other decent stuffs too.

Nothing to be worried about, from what I've seen. I don't mean that in the flippant way that people use to dismiss SoLs as a genre, but that really, nothing at all happened, it was just character introductions. The only thing keeping me from dropping it is a firm belief in the three-episode rule, because that was probably the least compelling first episode of any anime I've ever seen.

She's not the worst example of that archetype I've seen, but I've sat through too many series with characters like her and always ended up regretting not dropping them, so this time I'm finally trusting my gut and bailing out now.
Good for you if you can get past it though, enjoy those lolis twice as hard for my sake.

Finally getting around to watching anime after fucking work has decided to give me a break
Currently downloading 100+ episodes, wish me luck~
Also wasn't Last Encore supposed to come out days ago?

It's not being simulcast, but there are subs. Not great subs, but good enough for now. Avoid FMF (trollsubs) and Senritsu (misheard lines, incorrect terminology).
The adaptation has really gone off the rails already, so I hope Shaft know what they're doing.

Head tilts and "artsy" minimalist imagery. Of course they know what they're doing.

Nah, it's not 2009 anymore, sadly. This does still feature the good old Shaft Architecture™, though, despite the school's being painfully normal in the original.
More importantly, what I meant is that the story is already being totally changed around, so I hope that's a choice for the better, meant to make it work as an anime rather than a game.

I'm glad you're finally in the 21st century one way or the other, but you can get much better control and flexibility by setting up client-side RSS rules.
Really though, how did you make it to 2018 still, what, manually refreshing Nyaa every day to check for new releases? I've genuinely forgotten what it's like to not have any sort of automation.

Different anon here. Do you have a suggestion how I can filter out batch releases from groups that don't put the filename extension into their individual torrents and don't put "batch" or whatever into their batches?

You're all so cute, using HTTP to periodically ask about new torrents. IRC API masterrace here - TT messages me the instant a new torrent is up.

>>24313
Single episodes will have an episode number and batches won't, so I'd use a regex that searches for that number. Syntax varies from one implementation to another, "\d{2}" will work in some (that means "a group of exactly two characters which are digits").

In the event that the group puts something like "01-12" in their batch filenames, a more complex regex could filter that out. Once you go regex, the solution is always more regex.

But, hey, maybe that "episode filter" field can do some magic and you don't need to learn regex yet?

 No.24318

>>24313
You could build a fancy regex filter, and might learn a neat thing or two in doing so; or you could use my lazy technique for grabbing from public trackers, which is simply to add the torrents paused instead of starting them automatically. Since I have a pretty okay connection, each episode takes only two to three minutes to download, so whenever I see a new torrent pop up, I can just manually verify and start it, and the wait is negligible.
Or you could do it like Hackerman >>24316 there and use XDCC, though I don't really know the details of how to fully automate that process.

 No.24320

>>24318
Allow me to clarify. I don't use XDCC, I use bittorrent. But instead of requesting an RSS feed periodically, I have an IRC bot listening on a channel where torrents are announced.

It's a shame only TT offers this, as it's better for both parties. Users get their torrents instantly instead of (RSS update interval)/2 later on average, and servers save the bandwidth and processing power they spend on RSS.

As for automating XDCC, it shouldn't be hard. Maybe you could even do it by scripting an ordinary IRC client, without the need to write an IRC bot.

 No.24321

>24320
Automating XDCC downloads is trivial and there's really no point in using a dedicated bot for it. Personally though I just add the shows I'm watching to the alert list for my preferred bot channel and manually grab them each day. Never felt the need to automate something that takes so little effort, especially these days when there aren't very many real groups left to keep track of other than those for a few niche shows who tend to only release on nyaa anyways.

 No.24322

>>24321
>>24320
The only real reason to automate downloads to start the minute the episode is released is if you are torrenting and you want to be involved in the uploading process.
Otherwise it's a minor inconvenience at best when you have to go fetch yourself a drink while your episode downloads.

 No.24328

properly downloading cartoons takes a lot more technical knowledge than one'd expect

 No.24329

>>24328
It depends on what you consider "proper".
But as with anything, the more knowledge you have, the more you can optimize things.
You can also apply knowledge and knowhow to streaming. An amateur might google an anime and start streaming it on some 3rd rate website loaded with ads and viruses at horrible quality.
An expert would go to a source that would have the file in decent quality and then instead of watching it in the imbedded player load it into his proper video player. (then he'd automate the process)

 No.24332

do you automate the "watching" part, too?

I pay an Indonesian orphan boy by the episode to watch anime and post about them on Samachan for me. Really frees up a lot of time.
