>>24341Pop Team Epic isn't random madness. It's injokes and clichés that the author didn't bother to share with the audience. Most internet communities are connected to a degree. So this is like going back in time and having your first virginal experiences with the internet again.
"What is that?" "That's not funny." "Why are you…?" "Wait, I think I get it." "No, I don't get it at all."
And then you get hooked.

>>24352A lot of the western fans of the manga seem to enjoy not understanding the jokes, but yeah. It's popular among people who spend a lot of time on the japweb even if they don't know the language well. Of course you'll probably get plenty of the jokes if you've just been watching anime and playing Japanese games for a while.

>>24382Exactly, and most of the tropes it riffs on are pretty well-known even if you don't get the exact, specific reference.
That said, I didn't understand this week's Pop Team 8bit at all. What do yukkuri have to do with baseball?

The long-form skits were my least favorite part early on, but they've really been stepping them up recently.

No.25054
Things that I think:
• Criminally good opening
• First episode was absolute madness in a good way
• Subsequent episodes were the absolute same madness in a boring way
• Some good highlights in the middle, but overall just kinda unfunny
Overall rating: Positive meh.
No.25090
>>25054It probably reflects my own confusion more than the quality of the show, but it took a few episodes for it to grow on me. After about three or four, I started to get in the groove and enjoy myself. I'm sure if I rewatched it, I'd like the early episodes a lot more than I did the first time.
