Aurora E. Juutilainen, nice to have a proper scan of this.
Also turns out the E stands for Edith.
What's the deal with the ground-based witches? They were briefly shown in the Brave Witches anime, but honestly I thought it was just a joke.

They're a thing, they just don't get much focus.
I believe Tank Witches might actually be more common in-universe, as land strikers require less magic to use (which allows the user to focus their magic on bigger guns and better shields), but of course they are useless against flying Neuroi.
Land Strikers are basically giant metal legs, the witches can walk around with them or use the deployable wheels to dash.
The series focuses on international Joint Fighter Wings, which are only for aerial Witches, while Tank Witches mostly stick to their respective countries. The girl in the OP was originally a Tank Witch for the Fuso Army. Aurora now leads a support unit for the 502nd, who's main job is to carry Nipa's stuff back whenever she crashes.

Girl on the left is new, and also cute.
One of the issues I have with the Witches is that the way they're drawn makes it look like they're wearing prosthetic legs.>>25040
What's wrong with her? Don't bully.
Well they kind of are, as their legs disappear into the leg dimension when they put on strikers.
But I like it.
Good, I missed her. Needs way more freckles, though.
Don't they just wear them like really big boots?
Does it ever explain why they never wear bottoms? I assume it's so they can get into and out of the strikers. I mean, I know the *actual* reason is just so they can show their pantsu all the time, but I mean canon.
I'm guessing yeah that pants or skirts would interfere with the strikers
Especially skirts, imagine the havoc that would wreck aerodynamically.
Has nothing to do with strikers, even non-witches and people before strikers were created dress like that.
It's just women's fashion in their world, what we call panties are considered pants to them, isn't it wonderful?
Extremely easy access, huh.

Also Season 3!!!!!!!!!!!!
God damn it. Brave Witches was so good, and I thought maybe we'd finally get some anime of the other JFWs, but no, we need to get more fucking Miyafuji Yoshika. Who greenlit this? Fuck.
Well it's more Witches at least!
I'm so thrilled>>26498
And don't forget idolwitches!
Which may or may not satisfy >>26506
's absolutely wonky taste.
There's also some other non-anime stuff, such a reboot of the 507th novels.

I don't know about idoruwitches to be honest
I stole this but it's worth stealing.
You just don't get it, do you? Try to remember the time when you first watched it. You fire up the first ep, ready for some good fanservicey fun, maybe a couple of pantsushots here and there, a couple lewd jokes, some innuendo, all set to the backdrop of not-WWII. But what's this? Genderbent ace pilots? It's okay, you've seen more hardcore shit. Slight yuribait, okay, I mean everyone does that. But why aren't they wearing pants? Ep 1, nobody wears pants. Nobody bats an eyelid. Ep 2, ep 3, ep 4, the story steadily progresses, and you find yourself charmed and endeared by the cast, and the seiyuus are great, but still, no pants. Never directly addressed. Never explained in a neat infodump. They're just no wearing any pants. It's a bizarre alternative reality in which there are witches that don't wear pants. Why? How is this possible? Who allowed this? And then at length you come understand why. It's all being done for you. You. For your pleasure, and your satisfaction, the norms were casually broken and decidedly discarded, and then you realize that the minds that conjured this delightfully cheesy scenario are so like your own. You feel the unseen presence behind the idea, you feel the ocean of the imaginative mind of your fellow man slowly stir to present the glorious lack of pants in the most complete way, gratuitously emphasized by masterful shots and wonderfully contrived situations, as the means and the end in and of itself, and you feel, at peace. You feel at home, among your equals, you feel one with them, the ones that present the beautiful spectacle of no pants, and the ones enjoying it along with you, all, as one, united, linked, chained together by the inherent similarity of their daydreaming minds, all as one, one and the same. We are.

Wait, does this happen in the same continuity as the original show? And why're we getting news on the adaption furthest away anyway

Another absolutely lovely Suomus witch!
Yep, military music corps.
Ayla is based on an ace, but everyone else is based on a musician.
I assume they just want to show character designs.

I honestly can't tell if it's a style choice though
It seems consistent if nothing else
Lack of Perrine makes this anon a sad anon, but I agree.
I am still watching and loving it. It's a well-made parody spin-off. My only complaint is the wide differences in spotlight time among the different witches, but it's better for the staff to follow whatever good jokes they have than to feel forced to spend equal time on all witches.
Well it's a lot easier to make jokes about some Witches than others, and even originally some of them were more fleshed out so there's more to work with. It's only natural really.
When does the Idoru one air?
Yeah, I'm still watching it. They uichisu are better characterized in the supplemental materials so they could've done more with some of them but it's not really a big deal with something like this. Still good fun.>>30661
It's supposed to come out in 2021, after the new 501st sequel next year.
Anime is really going Hollywood huh
Endless remakes and reboots
Movie releases seem to have become more popular as a way to get around declining BD sales.
Here's an idea
What if BD boxes weren't priced so high that you could eat at a Michelin 3* for what you pay for it?
Dinner lasts one night. Anime is forever.
Wouldn't it make much more sense to have a Crunchyroll sort of arrangement for people who like to watch but don't want to spend 10k JPY on a Bluray with three episodes on it?
Japs just record it or download off perfect dark or whatever. There's plenty of anime streaming on niconico douga and other web services too. It's not some perpetual 1980s land. And CR also releases discs. You'll see their disgusting orange bunghole all over shit if you can manage find a surviving video store somewhere.
A bit ironic now you're talking about CR like it's a good thing when it was the studio who did the first season of witches that originally sold their soul to that devil. Not that I'm much better having comfortably settled into the HorribleStatusQuo.
I'm not saying it's a good thing, I'm just saying that when you bring up flagging BD sales the obvious solution is to broaden your audience and increase profits by slashing prices
Anime is a pretty elastic good after all.>anime streaming
I thought that was like, hyper illegal in Japan.
There's official anime streaming for modern shows on niconico. Jap Amazon too maybe, I don't know for sure.
As for illegal streaming. You can find plenty of Japanese videos on youtube or niconico that make use of English or Spanish subbed anime which likely comes from Western streaming sites. Just off the top of my head, this series of videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrcP30yoREs
). You can find all the rest on niconico since I don't think all of them are archived on youtube.
I dunno, it just feels like there must be a smarter way than trying to sell BD boxes where you need to pay like 35k JPY for the entire season of a mere 12 episodes
I don't know how much the collector's edition of, idk, the Hobbit is, but I'm pretty damned sure it isn't 350 USD.

Ah, this was a nice show. Really happy this series is getting some more life breathed into it.
Where did this joke even start
