This is a thread for all things mecha.
Giant robots, power armour, android girls, all that good stuff.
What mecha anime are you watching right now? Are there any you plan to watch? Got any model kits backed up?

I'm planning a Yugioh mecha girl deck!

I've got King gainer downloaded and ready to watch, now I just have to finish up my last exile rewatch and I'll be set.

I'm planning to start a mecha series in the near future; probably Macross Delta or an Eighties Gundam show.
I've also been playing Metal Storm for NES. It's a lot of fun, but I kind of suck at it.

Anyone else here seen Fafner before?
I'm watching the second season right now and it's great. The show does a really good job of showing how families and communities can support their teenage mecha pilots. It's really a breath of fresh air after seeing so many dysfunctional families in gundam.

I tried watching King Gainer and I couldn't get into it. Tominos mind is too fucking crazy for me to comprehend his machinations
Cool grunt designs though and a very energetic pace. I appreciate that it doesn't fuck around with exposition. It's just go go go and the audience can get fucked if they don't keep up.

Delta's fun but the ending isn't great. Fuck windermeres nuke 'em all
Which 80s gundams have you seen anon?

I haven't seen any 80s Gundam yet, but I've seen (and liked) Gundam 79, so I thought maybe I'd try one of the sequels. I also liked Thunderbolt and IBO.
How tightly connected are the UC Gundam shows? Should I watch them in order, or can I just pick one that looks cool?

The mainline UC stuff needs to be watched in order
0079 > Zeta >ZZ > Chars Counter Attack > Unicorn
You can sorta watch Unicorn without seeing anything else, but you'll miss some stuff
The OYW ovas can be watched whenever you want. So just pick one that looks cool. 0080 is really great though, I'd highly reccomend that one in particular. It's only six episodes so you can watch the whole thing in a day if you really want.

I was thinking of watching 0080 because it seems like it would be the next step chronologically (and because it's short, as you say), but I'm reading some reviews of Zeta and it sounds really good.

0080 is great! Though if you're looking forward to the mechs they dont play a huge part in it until later on. It focuses a lot on the characters though which I really like.

Zeta is fantastic too! Probably my favorite of the franchise that I've seen.

Zeta's pretty great. 0080 is before Zeta chronologically, but it doesn't tie into it in anyway. If you plan on watching 0083, watch Zeta first otherwise some character motivations won't make sense.

Zeta's pretty great. I hope you enjoy watching Kamille spergout. He's one of my favourite gundam mcs

You certainly weren't joking about the pacing lol. It reminds me a lot of Gundam Reconguista both in the way the story is handled and in the character designs. I takes a bit of getting used to but I think I appreciate shows that just jump in and dont spend half an episode dedicated to explaining what the factions are and what they do or how the mechs work. Infodumps can be done well sure, but sometimes its better to just take of you know?

I finished Fafner Exodus and I'd like to take this chance to mention how good the franchise as a whole is. It's really underrated and unmentioned

It's a real slow boil of a show. At first nothing seems to make a lot of sense and it feels somewhat derivative of other shows that came out around the same time. But it really starts to grow on you. A lot of characters that seemed to be really two dimensional at first slowly get fleshed out more and before you know it you've fallen in love with the whole cast. It's really densely packed with lots of little details and character moments, so it's the sort of show that actually improves when you rewatch it and catch stuff that you haven't seen before

>>27052
It's the sort of show where you can watch it and think, "yep that's definitely a Tomino show"
I do like that it doesn't waste time
