It's time for Yuno-chan's Manga Stand!
This week's recommendation for you to read is Hana ni Arashi by Kobachi Rukahttps://yuri-project.net/hana-ni-arashi-ch01/
It is a very cute and well drawn yuri manga about two high school girls, Chidori and Nanoha who are hiding their relationship from everyone they know. It's nothing sexy or suggestive, but it is still very cute and has two attractive characters! Give it a shot, I'm sure if you enjoy yuri manga and you don't already know about this, you will like it.

Goodbye Isekai Tensai is one of the few Isekai (along with Bokura no Kiseki) I'd actually call good and original.
That's a no, then.
I mean, I'm pretty sure the actual kanji in manga basically just means "comics", so anything in that format probably counts?>>28138
Didn't you post about this in the last thread too?

Also Nanachi's belly is the real treasure of the abyss.

Only Ryu would make a pun that bad
Or so I thought
And besides, everyone is a furvert for Nanachi

I just read from Chapter 19 to Chapter 100 and didn't even notice the year change from 2018 to 2019 at first.
It's honestly so fucking good I can't describe it accurately without sounding insincere and over dramatic. It's the best entertainment I've read or seen in years.

Honestly the Succubus (now canonically Incubus still) scenes are golden.

Anyone else keeping up with MiA? I just read the latest chapter. I'm excited to learn more about the history of Faputa and the Narehate village. Reading Ruin Explorer Fam & Irhlie.
I finished the OVA, but for some reason didn't even consider it was based off of a manga. I guess I thought the OVA was just based off a PS1 game or something.
I think the writing and sequences of events are much better thought out in the manga. The anime's animation was beautiful, but it contradicted itself sometimes and didn't make a lot of sense. Also they added in Muttley from Wacky Races as an anime only character for some reason, wheezy laugh and all.
Well this is great news

I started Succubus ni Tensei shita node Milk wo Shiborimasu.
I usually dislike isekai, but this is the kind of shameless self inserting I can get behind.
And the overpowered gift is actually original and funny. An invulnerable cow that can eat anything.
I found out about this manga not two days ago actually. How is it? I heard it's basically just about the MC being a slut but?
File: s21.jpg (442.54 KB, 1008x1434) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
I'm on chapter 8, and MC isn't much of a slut. He's just super oblivious to the fact he's a giganto titted girl, I think his purity is what causes misunderstandings.
It's fun so far, as mentioned it's a shameless self insert I actually enjoy, and finally there's a gender bender manga with some yuri and no secret keeping bullshit, and an isekai MC who tells the first people he finds, "Yeah I'm reincarnated, I'm from Japan, that's why I'm clueless about this stuff".
Also the mangaka finds really interesting ways to get around censorship. There was one panel where you saw the MC's pussy reflected in the pupils of someone who saw it, and you got the upper right panel on this where it's clearly a vagina but it's "just a field, censor. Just a fucking field, bro."
I remember TLR:D doing the pupil bullshit at least, it was hilarious.
I wonder why moral police do this sort of thing really. What's even the point of censoring this stuff?
It's some weird old Meiji era law that no one has the motivation to change. I imagine that anyone who would put forward a proposal to change would be ridiculed and lambasted for doing so. Or perhaps anyone who wishes to put forward a proposal to change it is afraid that they will be ridiculed and lambasted for doing so.
I think it was also TLR that got around the censor through a reflection in a faucet.
File: 1550094325171.png (88.07 KB, 223x266) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
I'm gonna post cute images of the cute MC!!
That doesn't really sound right though because old porn, like from the 90s and stuff, wasn't censored. It feels like a more recent addition, or maybe people just didn't realize the law applied and someone decided to make it apply because he had a stick up their ass.
But it is. Here's the Criminal Code:>Article 175. (Distribution of Obscene Objects)>A person who distributes, sells or displays in public an obscene document, drawing or other objects shall be punished by imprisonment with work for not more than 2 years, a fine of not more than 2,500,000 yen or a petty fine. The same shall apply to a person who possesses the same for the purpose of sale.
This has been on the books since 1907. The current interpretation is to be lenient about it while not changing the law itself. This is why it's okay to just put a mosaic or a few black bard over the penis or vagina and it doesn't count under Article 175. Technically and in the spirit of the law, the current methods of censorship should be illegal. And yes, old porn from the 90s was censored. You would need to provide a source on what you have because as far as I know, all porn made in Japan has to be censored.

This is a good thread. I feel like I've been missing out because I never really read manga unless it was after a show aired or I found something cool being posted around. I've got tons of material to work with now.
I found a really nice manga but it doesn't seem to be being actively translated into English.
I could translate these from the Chinese if you guys want but I can't typeset or clean worth shit. Have a read and tell me what you think?
This is funny because I too recently picked up that manga and was considering making an offer/request like yours, only in my case it'd be from Japanese.
I'd do Japanese but I'm obviously more confident in my Chinese even if I'm theoretically fluent in nip, and also because I have an easier source of CN raws.z

I find it sort of surreal how Hitler and Putin show up so often in manga. I wonder why. I mean I guess they don't from an objective point of view, but they show up more than you'd expect them to ever be relevant. It's also weird how they're not always presented as either good or evil, and sometimes they're caricatures and sometimes they're real people that you can even feel for.
The source is Billy Bat Ch. 100 in case anyone didn't know.
Billy Bat disappointed me a little, perhaps I expected too much from it having liked Naoki Urasawa's other works. It is by no means bad but it started very strongly and sort of teetered as it progressed.

It's about a girl with a FAT ass (as you can see) being spooked by weird abominations.
It's only eight chapters so far but the girl is really cute and the abominations look, uh, actually sort of terrifying really. More uniquely, there doesn't seem to be any shonen-style saviour coming for her and so far there's no indications she'll ever be used to it.
Give it a whirl when you guys have time.
As an interesting side note, the "mangaka" (webmangaka? twitterka?)'s wife also writes these little web manga. Hers is about childcare, I think.

I've been following this, and wasn't the kitten chapter just that?
She used her power to give the kittens a proper loving home, and found out one of the abominations is a protector of kittens.
Also, there are 8 chapters? I've only read 5, and thought it stopped getting updates 5 months ago.
She's learned to harness her powers but I don't think that's the same as getting used to it. I mean from what I've seen she's only edging closer and closer to cracking completely.>stopped getting updates
I think the eighth chapter came out like a couple of days ago.

I find mangadex to be slow sometimes, if you’re really following a series religiously i’d RSS the BU page or the translators blog
Well yeah, it doesn't help that mangadex has a weirdly strict anti-sniping policy for scan groups and doesn't upload 'official' chapters. But for the most part it's a reasonably fast site.

[s]So was Zazie killed?
I thought they said it was impossible to kill them entirely?
It looked like Knives took out the hive mind, but then the creepy dude with the bug in his throat brought the coin to Vash. That'd make me think either the hive mind survived or Zazie was still at least a few bugs.
Zazie was easily the Gung Ho Gun I found most interesting, but also the only character to really be left open ended in the ending. We get closure on everyone except them.
I watched the anime last year with Samachan, it was pretty cool to finally have some context for the random episodes I saw as a kid. Does the manga cover anything the anime doesn't? My memory is really awful…

Last time I went shooting was the first time I fired a .45
I'm a kinda short guy with small hands, so I figured a compact would be a better fit for my hands than a full size, and a USP was a cool gun so why not.
I didn't consider .45 from a compact, polymer pistol would equal fuckhuge recoil.
I didn't exactly have a good time after 50 rounds of that.

Yeah, I might buy another one once I have the money honestly. It's probably just because I was used to it but it's a lot more comfortable in my hand than other handguns I've shot>Last time I went shooting was the first time I fired a .45
I've never fired anything more than a 9mm out of a handgun, I found that to be fairly controllable. The CZ75 is full sized and has a metal frame though which helps. I'd like to try shooting a revolver in .357 or .44 some time.

Post it on Samachan if you do.
Use Gunsmith Cats as an excuse to do so.
The one in the pic was yours?
9mm generally is more controllable than .45ACP, yeah. Although some people say that even if the recoil is more mild, it's "snappier" whereas while .45's is a big kick it's a rather smooth kick at that.
Next time I shoot I definitely wont be getting another compact polymer gun. I'll have to deal with big boy grips.
I was like pic related by round 40 through the USP .45c. I'm fucking pathetic.
Also, back on the subject of manga, just finished Vol 1 of Gunsmith Cats.
I find it weird that Sonoda keeps feeling the need to show the goons alive after shootings and bombings, when in the very first gunfight of the manga Rally outright kills a henchman for getting in the way of her bounty by shooting him smack dab in the chest.
The rest of Vol 1 she's only killed two really sadistic big bads who were shown killing innocent people for sport.
Makes me feel really bad for that Chapter 1 first firefight henchman.
File: Poor Henchman.jpg (2.66 MB, 1448x4626) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Pic related, this guy.
The rest of the manga she just shoots the thumbs off goons and kills psychopathic lunatics out to kill her, but this guy wasn't even trying to kill her.
I know I shouldn't get hung up on it but it doesn't make sense to me.
Ahh Rally's such a cutie
I ought to read the manga sometime>The one in the pic was yours?
Yeah I got fancy wood grips.>>29572
From what I remember of the OVA she kills plenty of random goons in that, there's a scene where some guys break into her house and I'm pretty sure she just kills them all. I could be misremembering though.
She's definitely cute.
The manga's worth a read, art is very good.>fancy wood grips
Very nice. Shame you didn't hold onto it but don't beat yourself up over it either.
>there's a scene where some guys break into her house and I'm pretty sure she just kills them all
There's a chapter in Vol 1 where three people broke into her house in the manga, too, and all of them survived.
She made a point to shoot one in both shoulders and a knee, and the others got hit with a grenade by May while driving away but were shown alive in a car wreck afterwards covered in smoke like some sort of Loony Toons cartoon.
If it didn't have moments like that, Rally offing that one henchman at the start would be less jarring.
I guess it's sorta like how Batman started off murdering fools but DC re-worked him to never kill. I hate bringing up Western comics on Samachan but it's what comes to mind.

Also I miss character designs like this, it'd be nice to see big hair and big 90s eyes come back.
Good to know.
I definitely agree, I LOVE 90s hair and eyes.
Also cute armpit!! I don't recall the manga getting any pit service yet, it's mostly Rally losing her pants or top and May blowing a bunch of dudes (not with explosives) and masturbating.

Whoa, gun talk on samadono. Gunsmith Cats is one of my old favorites for sure. The Black Horse translation isn't perfect but it's a very American manga so I mind the liberties less. I was way more bothered by the censorship and the flipped format but the collected volumes Black Horse put out a few years later fixed that for the most part so I won't hold that stuff against them too much. It was the 90s after all. Sonoda's genius carries the whole thing irregardless. I'm excited for the new Riding Bean OVA.>>29574
She kills plenty of people, goons and mooks mostly. I don't remember that well but I think the later volumes get more violent. I distinctly remember several headshots. There's plenty more fanservice too though.>>29514>>29571
It's a bit of a cliche to say it now after the CZ fad ran its course but genuinely believe the CZ75 is the pinnacle of handgun ergonomics. Even the subcompact 2075 feels more natural in the hand than my own cock, though it's also pretty much about as big and heavy as a regular compact but shorter on both axes.
Are you sure your posture and grip were adequate? I'm mostly into steel framed service pistols and revolvers but I'm also not very big and have pretty small hands and I don't have much trouble with big bore stuff. Standard .45 ACP loads shouldn't really be too much worse than 9mm Luger if you can shoot that comfortably, even from a lighter and smaller gun.

I've been reading (and posting) the collected volumes of Black Horse. They're all downloadable off archive.
That's fine if she kills plenty of people later, but as said I've just finished reading Volume 1, and so far she's only killed a psychotic bitch out to mutilate her who killed a pedestrian asking if she was okay, a piece of shit rapist also out to kill her who shot his hostage after he said he'd let her go, a revolver specialist who Rally was actually sad to kill, and that one random goon I posted who wasn't even trying to kill Rally. So the goon just felt off.
If she kills more goons later then that's fine. It just felt uneven to me where I'm at.
If I'm being honest, my posture was shit. Because I grew and still live in a State with gun laws worse than Canada I never grew up shooting so I've been mostly self taught as an adult by driving out of State and renting at ranges.
On top of that I'm near sighted in my shooting eye due to an accident I had as a kid. Since I'm only near sighted in one eye and rarely shoot, I never needed to get glasses or contacts or anything like that, but obviously when I'm shooting it fucks me hard, and I ended up bending the elbow and wrist of my shooting arm and holding the USP a bit too close to my face so I could actually make out the sights.
In hindsight I should have just closed my good eye with bad vision and tilted my head a bit, using the other eye, but I didn't know how that worked at the time. I'll definitely do that next time I go shooting, since I still haven't gotten glasses.
File: GSCB v2 027.jpg (140.48 KB, 1024x1449) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Yeah I've had most of those problems too. I'm also entirely self-taught. Everybody gets better with practice and research. I've worn glasses most of my life so I can't really say anything about the nearsighted thing though. I was told it gets worse faster if you don't wear corrective lenses but I don't know if that applies to nearsightedness from injuries or just congenital conditions like mine.
I wish I had my own land so I could just screw around on it and do whatever I want without having to go out of my way and pay other people for the privilege. Going to ranges is a pain in the ass.
Also I think several of my clothing fetishes might have been Sonoda's fault. I finished off Burst a few years ago but it's been a long time since I've read the whole series. Might be time to revisit it.
File: 215.png (539.6 KB, 1092x1600) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Glad to hear I'm not alone.
I recall my eye doctor actually recommending I not get glasses or contacts since it would be a waste of money, given I can see fine with my other eye.>I wish I had my own land so I could just screw around on it and do whatever I want without having to go out of my way and pay other people for the privilege.
That, and I wish my State would make it legal to buy an sell literally any semi-auto rifles in .223 that aren't the Mini-14 or Tavor.
I'm not joking, this place is Orwellian. I went into a state of depression when our gun grabbing criminal attorney general won reelection last year.
Even Canada has ARs and AKs.
He definitely puts a lot of attention into clothing.
Did Gunsmith Cats help get you into firearms, or is it something you checked out due to interest in them?
I'm the latter, but a different manga DID help get me into firearms, although it's significantly less cool and well written.
I usually get confused responses when I say Elfen Lied got me into firearms, but the Desert Eagle and Bandou were just so fucking cool to me when I was a teenager that it definitely gave me a push.
File: GSCB v3 069.jpg (467.89 KB, 1280x1811) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
I've always been into both weapons and manga. Aircraft, ships, whatever. When you're a kid your interests just kind of all meld together and you can't really remember which exactly led to what. Manga with military and other weapons-related themes just scratched more than one itch at a time. GSC was definitely what first got me interested in CZ stuff and got me more enthusiastic about cars and guns though. Sonoda's tastes just always resonated with mine.
Sounds like you live in MD or MA or something? I guess I'm lucky enough to have lived in places with better laws. State AWBs and licensing schemes on top of the expense and maintenance work inherent to the hobby probably would've made me give up on it a long time ago.
Interesting, weapons was something I grew into as a young teenager rather than liking as a kid. Really the only hobbies I still have today that I've enjoyed since I can remember without having to get into first are animals and anime/manga.
I still haven't found an interest in cars, don't think I will by this point.
You're on the mark, I don't feel too comfortable giving out my State even as anon due to some negative experiences in the past, but it's one of those two.
It's really suffering to try and enjoy the hobby. Only weapon I actually own is a Parker crossbow with a 160lb draw weight, which is pretty fun but no gun. It's actually kind of annoying since the scope broke on my third time shooting just from recoil, and sighting in a scope on something that takes 15 seconds and a little exercise to load is a massive pain.
Whenever I shoot guns, I head out of State to shoot.
I got a hard time at the range I shot the USP at because criminals from my State sometimes go there, buy ammo and rent a gun, don't shoot all the rounds and smuggle them out, bring them back to home and use them for drug related shootings, which usually gets it tracked back to the range and causes them problems. It was obvious they were suspicious of me since I hadn't shown up before and was shooting by myself, they took a good 5 minutes to agree to let me in even after I gave them all my required info.
Bit of a left field question, but have you fired Hi-Point pistols before?
I keep hearing mixed opinions. Some people say they're as durable and reliable as AKs and are actually really good for the price, and others say they're complete junk and wont touch them.
If I ever move to a free State I'd be interested in picking one up simply due to the cost is all.
>>29585>it's mostly Rally losing her pants or top and May blowing a bunch of dudes (not with explosives) and masturbating.
May really is a big perv in the manga huh

My first gun purchase was my CZ75 and my interest in CZ guns was definitely started from GSC. I'd like to find a decent condition K98 sometime too to go with all my Sora no Woto stuff. I've always liked military themed anime and manga but I only really know anything about guns, I'm certainly not a car person and I don't know much about tanks or boats or anything.>>29603

Ah I love animals too! Dogs are my favorite but I like pets in general. >have you fired Hi-Point pistols before?
I have not but from talking to people that have I hear that they "just work" and are actually pretty durable, even if they aren't great objectively. I think they get joked about a lot because they're so cheap and they are especially ugly and probably not too comfortable to use.

If you want to, you should. You are a good poster.
>>29603>but have you fired Hi-Point pistols before?
The singular design principle of the Hi-Point pistol is to create the cheapest possible reasonably reliable weapon. It is indeed reasonably reliable, but this is at the expense of everything else one would ask of a handgun. As a simple blowback-operated pistol for rounds up to and more powerful than 9mm Luger, the slide has to be essentially a brick of zinc alloy and steel, which will make itself felt. The safety works but is rudimentary. Ergonomics are nonexistent and operation of the weapon is liable to cause your hands at least as much pain as is felt by your target. You'd have an easier time concealing 428 Cobra Jet engine in your anus than a Hi-Point C9 in an IWB holster. QC is barely passable. It is +P rated, but certain brands of ammunition and certain magazines will not work. The ammunition and magazines that work may vary with each individual specimen. There are no features except the price tag.
So yeah, it's actually a pretty good piece (of junk). The carbines can be fun too.

Well, I talked about it a little in /z/ but I thought I may as well expand on it.
So basically, historical and/or pseudohistorical (i.e. medieval fantasy) manga can be divided into two types. There's the type that whitewashes history - making the values of 'then' overly similar to those of 'now', and there's the type that does that less.
Now just to be clear I don't mean specifically the protagonist - a protagonist who's 'ahead of their time' makes sense in a lot of ways. Chiefly, the protagonist is often the point of view character, or at least the character we're meant to cheer on and sympathize with. It's extremely useful to have this character also be archaic in values but it's also super risky. It's useful because it becomes difficult to dismiss these values as marginal in their society, or as wrong, something to be replaced, when the protagonist holds these values. It immediately blasts you full force with the idea that yes, this is a different time, a different place, and these people never grew up in the culture you did. But that's also the risk because obviously if you can't relate to the protagonist in any way it becomes hard to really care about him, beyond as a channel for your more base emotions. You can have fun watching him kill and rape but it's hard to really sympathize with him because he arrives at a different conclusion starting from different assumptions.
Now with that out of the way, I mean specifically stuff like early Kingdom. In early (that is to say, everything before roughly this panel, 400+ chapters in) Kingdom, the main character Shin (an expy of the historical general Li Xin) is an extremely generic shounen protagonist. He demonstrates critical thinking and an actual aura of leadership, weighing choices and such, but most of the time it's pretty easy to substitute Naruto or Luffy in for him. He's anachronistically righteous. Not as much as you might think - there weren't 'laws' of war, but there wre conventions and Bai Qi (Hakuki), for example, never really lived down his massacres. It's the amount of support from the rank and file and leadership that's abnormal, he's seen as a paragon of virtue instead of strangely concerned with the fate of tiny villages in enemy territory.
File: x25.jpg (113.6 KB, 728x1057) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
For a contrast to this, look at Vinland Saga. Vinland Saga starts us off with a gutpunch MC - he honestly does not care about the atrocities going on. The author straddles the line - he isn't personally interested in cruelty, and at one point feels sorry for what he does, but he never really regrets it until the start of the infamous Farmland Saga arc. Thorfinn - the MC - is a 'moralistic' character done well, I think. He has his values, but not without reason, and we can actually watch his development from mad warrior to peaceful atoner. What makes this interesting is that while it's painted as a good thing, some otherwise heroic characters in the story itself think he's outright retarded for thinking as he does, while others think he's finally seen the light. We get a nice sense of contrast, and in seeing the contrast we get the sense that here is a world where the things we take for granted are actually under heavy debate. The Vinlandsaga takes place, as historically, around the turn of the millennium, and this is the time when Christianity is finally getting a hold on the Norse world. The main character's moral transition is merely an extreme version of the one the world he lives in is undergoing, and I think that helps with the suspension of disbelief. Even if you didn't know too much about the time period, you can appreciate what's happening because it just fits, it makes sense, and that's the strength of historical fiction above all else, the imagination that 'yeah, this might be really how it happened'.
Now, of course, Vinlandsaga is a much grittier story. Good people don't always get their due, some who deserve to live die anyway while others get away scot-free. There's almost no correlation between being a nice person and having a nice life, and that I think is another thing - it lends itself easier to historical fiction. Historical fiction is bounded by history - if you're writing historical fiction about the Third Crusade, even if you fuck with the details Richard and Philippe have to be driven back, the big picture is what it is. And that means that if you do try to make the story heroic, then with a few exceptions you'll have to butcher the character and take cheap roads out. That lessens the quality of the fiction because anyone reading can tell what just happened.
So basically what I'm saying is that overcorrecting for moral dissonance does a story a disservice. Historical fiction draws its strength from the rich history that surrounds it. The weight of age is what gives the stories their appeal, there's a majesty to such an old story. If you change the values in it so drastically, you sap a lot of the power from the narrative, or at least that's what I think. Even stories that aren't 'really' historical fiction, like Fateshit, could find strengths from the sort of moral differences that you only find between an ancient demigod Irish serial rapist, a jilted bride from Colchis circa Mycenaean Greece, and a butthurt Japanese kid who never really grew up even if he grew brown.
And just to be clear, this problem isn't restricted to manga, Japan, or even the modern world. It's probably human nature, but it's also detracting from the appeal of a historical fiction. Writing a historical fiction means you're drawing from historical happenings, so let the history happen, and from the history find your story.
I read your posts with great interest and I see in you an alternate me, a me who enjoys being engrossed in deep stories with rich, multifaceted characters, and who was about to come into existence when cute anime girls got in the way. I really want to pick up Vinland Saga now, but I know what'll happen if I do: I'll force myself to read it for two weeks and go no further than half a volume before dropping it for lack of cute girls.
Cherish what you have, anon, and keep sharing your passion with us - it shows some of us a glint of a hope long lost.

It's hard for me to understand what it is about 5toubun that makes it popular. The haremshit fad died down quite a bit compared to its peak, and certainly, it's got nothing unique about it. I guess the same goes for Bokuben but that had a decently unique character subplot at the beginning.
Does it really just come down to the art quality? The characterization of 5toubun and Bokuben are laughable and the 'main' girls are 100% not wife material. I might have shit taste but it really is weird how some harems explode onto the front page of magazines while others are dead on day one.
I guess the art is a pretty big factor yeah. I'm not too sure though, its just fun to read, the concept of quintuplets can lead to some interesting situations too.
Miku is also too cute to not read more of this.
>>30308>The characterization of 5toubun and Bokuben are laughable and the 'main' girls are 100% not wife material.
This is an opinion and a shit one at that. What does that even mean? "Wife material" is such a dumb concept because what each person values in a woman is completely different.

New chapter of About a Lazy High School Guy Who Woke Up as a Girl One Morning
I'm actually really happy the author isn't falling for cliched shit and is making the MC relatable.
If you're annoyed by interacting with girls and get harassed by one you're eventually going to have enough and tell her to fuck off.
It's one of the more down to earth manga in this genre. It seems to be entirely a physical swap, with his mental state and attitude left entirely intact. This allows us to determine the author's views on the mind-body problem.

The reason she's in the manga, though, is clearly solely to subvert the trope where the genderbent MC gets guidance from the hyperactive and nosy member of their current sex.

Cute loli. I hadn't heard of this but the anime is definitely on my radar now.
It's only a bonus chapter. If you read HnK the latest chapter is out too.
>>30559>It's only a bonus chapter.
Ah shame. Still excited to read it.>If you read HnK the latest chapter is out too.
I do not but everyone I talk to has recommended I do. The only reason I hesitate is that I really liked the anime less after Phos lost her genki and turned into Edgy Phos, and from what I hear the manga doesn't exactly get better in that regard. If it focuses more on the other characters who are still fun like Red Beryl and Diamond that would be nice though.
Yes it did move in that direction and never looked back and no that didn't really happen.
That's a shame. The worldbuilding and plot elements do still interest me though, and the art is really neat. So I may still give it a read sometime.
I've started reading Somali to Mori no Kami-sama, few chapters in and it's been rather decent. The setting is relatively interesting and reminds me somewhat of Hakumei and Mikochi albeit darker although there are some things that doesn't feel like it adds up but I'll reserve my judgment until I have read further. In regards to the anime, I'm not sure about the choice of VA for the Golem but we'll see.

I've been reading for a year or two now.
Yes >>30555 https://twitter.com/somali_anime
I've just finished chapter 11 and I was wondering Is the young witch the same as the dying witch?
File: 3ais0gvt94421.jpg (129.66 KB, 640x961) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
If I recall by that point they already state the dying witch is telling the story of the young witch, who was even older than her, and dead long before the current events of the series.
Yes that was indeed what was mentioned but In the flashback, the witch told the golem that her name was also Izolda Nevzora. I was wondering if she was fabricating the story or if there was a mistranslation somewhere
I've caught up to the latest chapters, looking forward to the anime. Thank you for posting and recommending the series, it was an interesting series though not without flaws. I find there were aspects that were slightly weak such as the pacing and narration as well as certain backstories but it was still a good read overall.

Laius is a gnome.
Chilchack is a dwarf.
Izutsumi is also a gnome?
Senshi is a halfling.
Marcille is an oni-lover's wet dream.
Ishigami is barreling towards a bad end.
I don't follow, why do you think so? Or do you just mean you think he'll get turned down by his senpai
By three months I meant March.
Well I mean
1. Iino is a shit
2. Ishigami didn't really confess to Iino in any way I think? Ishigami might've not meant to confess to senpai but he wanted to anyway, while he's got nothing for Iino and Iino knows it. It was just a surprisingly thoughtful gesture coming from someone who's seemingly oblivious to it all.
The standard resolution would be for senpai to reject him on some contrived "it's not you it's me" grounds and for worst girl to tsun tsun her way into his kokoro by aggressively consoling him. Senpai is less of a character than Fujiwara.
I don't really expect anything more than cliche. This manga's selling point is the execution.

I'm Curious whats everyones opinion on mangadex? Do you use it or do you read manga form somewhere else?
I'm not sure I follow the question, is there a particular reason not to use it? I do, except for the ones that are licensed or when the groups are being bitches about it.
Same as my opinion on batoto. If it's not by a group I follow and get stuff from directly or at the usual download spots I don't mind ripping from mangadex. I never read in my browser though.
Yes, I don't know any other. If scanlation groups provide download links or a decent web reader, I'll go with that.
it's batoto 2.0
A combination of that, lhscans and nyaa should cover the basics so I don't have a problem with it as long as they don't put shady stuff on their site, try to pull a CR or start censoring stuff for their users.

I haven't really been keeping up with dungeon meshi ever since they introduced the catboy faggot and started adding tons of unironic plot, it weighs the series down pretty hard I think.
Which is probably a dumb as hell complaint now that I think about it, I remember hints of plot long before that and there was that whole arc about the insane sorceror and the chimera imouto. I was losing interest by then though, idk. Maybe it's just my visceral hate of edgy catboys.
Izutsumi is a girl though..?
Are we talking about the starving cat around like chapter 45 or whatnot?

I'm wondering how the author wants to explain her gaining her powers, though. She's clearly a medium talking to dead people now, as far as the canon is concerned, but at the same time the other two mediums seem to have had their powers from birth. Also, I guess the 'three times' thing is 'I'll save your life three times', or something to that effect?

Boy, mangadex's online reader is finally causing me to forget to download manga. Batoto's was never good enough for that. It doesn't help that a bunch of the stuff I try to keep up with only gets posted there and nowadays nobody rips stuff for weeks or months so I have to rip it myself if I want it saved.
I gave up on mangadex the moment they made it mandatory to have an account to search for things while pretending it's only during heavy load/DDoS periods. Only really use it as a reader for some of doki's manga that I follow. Most other scan groups have their own readers so I'm set.
I wish everybody still uploaded to irc like back in the day, or at least that there weren't groups that hide archive downloads behind layers of bullshit or worse, don't provide downloads at all. I guess since I complain about it I should just rip stuff myself if I want it, it's not really much of a pain.

I like that even though Yuu grows old she retains the ahoge.
It's a common misconception that girls can have ahoge. In fact the ahoge is a family of saprotrophic protists whose fruiting bodies take the form of people, many of which are quite cute. The fruiting bodies are nearly identical to humans and through them the ahoge obtain nutrition and reproductive functions, existing symbiotically with human societies. So in fact, Yuu is not a girl at all. She's the sporocarp of her ahoge. A very cute and gay sporocarp!
How do I grow my own?
You'll have to reproduce with the sporocarp of an existing one or obtain the spores and culture one in agar or something similar. They're pretty uncommon but the concentrations are higher in places like bakeries and dog cafes where cute things congregate.

It really seems like this girl should have been the bad guy and sado woman should have been a magical girl. What a unfortunate mix up.
The anime had a lukewarm reception when it was aired but I've grown to like the cast, I hope there will be a sequel. Kiniro Mosaic is the only one amongst the more well-known cgdct SoL that I have yet to watch, is it supposedly similar to this?
I would say yes, kyuuketsuki reminds me most of KinMoza - although I disliked KinMoza yet rather enjoyed the vampire one. It gets flak, it seems, for its stale vampire jokes, but in my view KinMoza has little to offer except stale gayness jokes, so a second set of stale jokes is a welcome addition.
I had the idea for a vampire girl in modern day Jpana anime YEARS before Kyuuketsuiki came along, and it was such a disappointment
My version would have been much heavier on the comedy and would make the vampire a chuunibyou
she would've been the raw meat eating kind of vampire (no blood drinking) who would buy her meat in the supermarket
Also, she would've lived in a tiny apartment with a much older and more (genuinely) scary vampire who would scare the neighbors and be really funny when she (he?) brought the main vampire girl her bento to school
Despite living up to her chuunibyou fantasies, the MC would be embarrassed by the older scary vampire because she (he? (it?)) was very grouchy and old and couldn't adjust to modern life
Stop whining about how they plagiarised you, or else when some idiot burns down their studio the media will blame samachan. Instead, write your stupid vampire fanfic so I can read it already.
Is anyone else reading SPY X FAMILY? It's very funny and the story is engaging too. Poor stasi siscon.

Usagi-moku Shachiku-ka is like Senko-san/Dragon Maid but with a moon-dwelling proletariat who was living under a socialist moon regime but found herself discharged to Japan and employed by a salaryman as a housekeeper for 1 yen a month.
Yeah, I'm normally quite averse about reading historical manga but I find myself enjoying this, which is made even weirder by the fact that the manga has romantic and josei overtones - things which I have never quite liked. I don't know how historically accurate it might be but I thought everything was well thought-out and represented.
This one is a typical Kirara CGDCT about snorkeling, reminds me of Amanchu and Yurucamp. Seems like the kind of thing that will get an anime in the future.
This is good, I caught up to the latest chapter. I adore the slimes, it's cute how they talk with the dying dragons, and how people carry them around to see the world. They're wonderful companions.
>>32343>Yeah, I'm normally quite averse about reading historical manga
Really? Why? I've always found historical manga to be very enjoyable, they're highly grounded and have a story that tends towards being natural in the long run (since, like, it's literally a True Story(tm))
I suppose it's like adaptations, because you have an expectation for it to be a certain way. And what you've mentioned about it being like a "true story" is the worst aspect of it for me.

Uwaa the ocean
i hate 1 page chapter manga
They're pretty bothersome to keep up with.
Hiyajyou is too mean sometimes.
Why is that bad? I mean I personally like it because it more or less prevents mary sue-dom, and also more or less prevents asspulls. History is already a story with a lot of very smart people trying to figure out justifications for the dumber stuff that happens so if you look into it at all you'll find the foreshadowing and the justifications and all that hard work is already done for you as an author.
I guess the biggest problem is that it's a plot-driven story instead of a character driven one?
I don't know if we simply happen to read completely different historical manga but I find that our opinions are in reverse. I don't read shonen manga first of all and I find that the bad points you've raised points to that genre. Most historical manga from what I've found revolves around the character/heroes and so does its plot. I don't know what you mean by asspulls but I thought it'd easier for mary sue situations to happens precisely because these great men are supposed to be above the laymen of their age, as you have mentioned. Authors also tend to interpret things from their perspective as a Japanese or from a modern point of view. I don't know if you are the guy who made the posts about vinland saga but the characters in it I find are a little too Japanese and the character archetypes could easily fit/be found in any other shonen manga. For that reason perhaps I find it easier to read historical manga set in Japan or the East. Although I haven't read it much in recent years, when it comes to "historical" manga, I prefer reading gekiga like Lone Wolf and Cub and Kamui Den (not Golden Kamui).
I was thinking Ad Astra and Histoire, actually. Vinland Saga is good when it doesn't focus too much on Thorfinn and his butt buddy.
Mary Sues, imho, aren't really about powerlevel differences or major character-driven developments so much as unnatural distortions of the overall plot around the character
This can happen sometimes in history too, like everything about Joan of Arc, but it's less common, easier to find potential justifications in literature, and has the bonus that many of the readers expect the bullshit, turning it into an embarrassingly bad piece of writing into a hype moment because you KNOW what's coming.
I get your thing about the overly Japanese perspective, but I find that to be less common in historical manga, probably because anyone who's interested in history is likely to have a much broader perspective. In other manga you get embarrassing displays like Kengan Asura thinking the Japanese land forces were the 'most feared in the world' during the 2nd world war; in historical manga you mostly get unconscious fitting of values to modern ones, but even those are less common in historical manga, I think. VS makes a point of consciously avoiding some of the more anachronistic values, for example, and also portrays a transition between older and newer values. Ad Astra also does a fairly good job of touching on the Roman concept of the familia, though not in depth since it's really not an important part of the story.
Fair enough, I haven't read either but I picked up Historie and it's been alright. I've known about it for a while but hadn't realized all this while that it was written by the mangaka of Parasyte which I have read and remember to be decent. I suppose I have no idea of your interpretation of Mary Sue then, I had assumed you went by its standard definition. By Japanese, I don't just mean it in terms of perspective as you have mentioned but in the sense that some of these characters behave and think like how a modern Japanese would.
Going back to what you have mentioned about historical fiction being a true story, what I mean when I say that it's the worst aspect is because we know that historical fiction is not actually "true" but it is treated as such and compared to a story that is purely fictional, I find that the suspension of disbelief is harder to achieve. I suppose the rise in isekai novels is a lazy way to easily reconcile the problem of suspension of disbelief.
Well, I think historical fiction has the advantage of having a true backdrop, which is why hitting big events is so important in them, they sort of anchor the background. You can interpret, you can add, and you can supplement, but if the city falls then sorry bro but the city has to fall. And I think sometimes even the 'editing' can be done well, Ravages of Time has one of the better interpretations of Lu Bu and Chen Gong I've seen (even though I'm not a fan of making Diao Chan what she ended up being in that story), while Kingdom has one of the shittiest edits I've ever seen in a supposedly historical series, even including non-Japanese stories in there.
I also think the historical background is an easy way to add weight to a story. See how in Vinland Saga, when Askeladd talks about the Roman coins on the ground, we sort of immediately get what he means, why it's important, and what events he's referencing, but you couldn't do that in a fantasy world.
>by Japanese…some of the characters behave and think like how a modern Japanese would.
How do you mean, can you give an example?
I think that even though the historical fiction itself isn't necessarily true, it's more treated as something that 'might have been' true. I'm sure that Hannibal didn't *really* see Scipio the younger during the escape of Scipio the elder, and it's probably not true that Scipio the younger played such a decisive role in the escape of Longus, but it *could* have been true. I suppose many stories break the suspension of disbelief though, and that's probably the fault of shonenification.
I suppose you could be right, maybe I just completely miss the appeal. I think it's comparable to a body of work and its spin-offs/doujin with the historical fiction being the spin-off. Like piano pieces, I suppose there can be different ways of interpreting it and maybe I'm just the type of person who likes the 'canon' original. With regards to the reference to Askeladd, I do think it's possible, it all comes down to how well the fictional universe and mythos was crafted. Granted, it can never compare to the depth and scale that real history offers.
I can't completely describe it, it's rather subtle, perhaps it has to do with the traits of the character? Maybe it has to do with the shonenification that you have mentioned. Obviously creators could only create things within the scope of their understanding but for example a western depiction of eastern culture and history are just as bewildering. People of different cultures behave and react to things differently and not all archetypes of character are interchangeable or exists in another culture. Perhaps the most noticeable in manga/anime are the female characters, they tend to be based on the ideal of the Japanese creator and based on how the women around them behaves. Sometimes I feel that they are too 'Nadeshiko' which I think is a unique Japanese trait and I would argue is nonexistent the further west you go. You could perhaps even make an argument for the tsundere character. Some of the characters in VS are guilty of this I find but that might be due to the fact that it was originally published in a shonen magazine.
I'm just butting in to say that this has been a very interesting discussion to read so far. Good points raised by both parties and plenty of food for thought for us bystanders.
I think that usually has to do with an incomplete understanding of the history they're depicting. Some level of cultural bleedthrough is inevitable if only because you need to have a frame of reference for the readers, but yeah some people have it way worse than others.
As for the women, I can agree that it's often supremely obvious they're projecting that one girl they really wanted to bang in high school onto a character. I think it's especially bad with women really, possibly because the historical record on how women behaved and their role is less rich in detail than the male counterpart. Not that it doesn't exist but you need to dig a bit for it and also sift through the bullshit and the wishful thinking of later generations to get a basic picture.
Some authors also like to play to what the audience expects, i.e. the 'pop' historical references, and some others purposefully downplay the differences between cultures in order the, well, yeah, shonenify the situation.
Finally a new MiA chapter, apparently the mangaka is having health issues. I hope he gets well soon.

Koyomi is probably my favorite character, really glad we got to see some more of her before it ended.

Plot is moving. I'm excited for the next chapter.
Wait, this is that kitty killer right? Or whatever the fuck else he did with the cats that made the cat owner ghost screech at him.
Wait, it's over? Heck that was fast I'm still waddling around chapter 12
How did it end? Did they fuck
Yes, I don't think it was ever shown what he did but he was surrounded by the same ghosts.>>32606
Just go read it. They do.
And yeah I'll probably finish it tomorrow

Did you read it yet? What did you think of it?
I think what struck me the most besides Nanami's ultra cute underwear
was how good the art was. Which is probably a weird thing to say alongside all the nice theming and decent character development (mainly for the main two; I think a weakness, though it was inevitable because of how short the series was, is that side characters got pushed, well, to the side), but really the art has a very clean feel to it while not feeling plastic like a lot of other mange I've been reading lately. Kengan Asura looks incredibly dirty, for example.

There's a light novel that follows Sayaka if you care about her. My favorite part about the art is the clothes, these final chapters especially, when they start wearing more casual clothing.
Yeah, manga artists really need to give us more casual /fa/. Serafuku is nice but you sometimes need a change of pace, you know?
I saw that. The CGI and director worry me. I haven't watched Kakegurui but Garo wasn't bad, so hopefully it works out. There have been some great adaptations that come after the manga ends.
Yeah watching it again the CGI actually looks pretty bad, especially for a PV. That's kind of sad for such a popular manga.

On their wedding day does he vow and kiss for every different persona? (I would only marry pervert-chan and cheeky-chan)
On his vow and wedding day only Pervert-chan will show up because she can't wait for the sun to go down.

The anon who likes Marcille and Chilchack is in for a treat.
Yes, it was a very fun episode. I'm looking forward to the next chapter, interested in seeing their interpretation of the succubus. Thanks for notifying me of a new release.
Damn Marcielle being dripping wet looks really cuteHow the fuck are they going to eat succubi?
Thanks for the recommendation!
