Damn this is incredibly cute
I thought this was going to be a lackluster winter season, what the fuck happened? We're ending the 2010s with a bang, huh?
Ah, so they were Namori's designs! His art style has become disgustingly cute over the years. I liked this first episode.
Looking at the shows in the Winter chart it does feel like it was going to be lackluster
The shows have been surprisingly good so far though

Was Mao gender bent by the magic when he was sent back in time?
Or was she always a little girl just using magic to disguise her adorable form in order to intimidate others?
THIS SHOW IS FUCKING ADORABLE
The great thing about D&D (especially online) is that you can be as cute as you want!
Yes but cuteness is deeply ingrained within the soul. There is a very thin line between cute and uncute and to know where that line stands takes decades of training.

I have a very cute soul thanks. I'm a 12 year old girl on the inside.
I really like the big ears on Japanese Elves.

Hahaha she just decides to quit
Why be a demon lord when you can be cute.

Mao didn't show up even once this episode!
Yeah it was a bummer, she's by far the best character

A deconstruction of the beach episode!…
yuyu's theory about pink being the chubby one turned out true?!
She's not chubby she's soft!

I think I actually like Mei the best out of the four girls. Her terrible puns and dry sarcasm make me laugh and I love her dumb chuuni moments too. This scene made me grin like an idiot.
Mao-chan is still #1 overall though.

Great episode this week
Yeah it was great, a lot better than the beach episode in my opinion
Got to see a lot of Mao being adorable and the princess yuri is a nice addition
More yuri please. Thank you.

I want one.
Where is Mao?!
Yusha looks great though
Another great episode.

This might be old news to you but I just figured out that they're saying the episode number in these eyecatches.
I hadn't realized it til this episode either
Yeah. There were some cute, funny and heartwarming moments but it all felt very standard. It feels like they're running out of ideas, which is kind of disheartening considering everything so far has been decent to good.
The show has been boring since the first episode without Mao in it at all. She carried the first few episodes of the show, and its evident how substanceless it is without her.

At least Mei is as capable of making the anime interesting for me. Her, Mao and the princess seem to be the only ones fleshed out enough to have a passion/motivations. Mao gave up, the princess' way of moving the plot forward overstayed its welcome after 2 or 3 episodes in a row focused on her and Mei is the only one with something that makes things interesting, though it looks like her arc has been resolved in the latest episode. That's not good news.
The show seems scared of taking any risks. Are they trying to turn this into a multi-season SoL anime? They could have spent an entire season focusing on Mao attempting to stop Yusha from becoming a hero and then giving up by the end of the season. Instead they made her quit by episode 2. I thought the princess would set things in motion out of selfishness (and the OP made me think she was going to be Mao's polar opposite) but that route is resolved right away in imo the worst episode in this anime so far.
We get no back stories (outside of Mao), no stakes, nothing. Yusha's "heroism" is reduced to one dragon quest joke in a random episode, Fai and Seira exist, Mei has the otaku thing going for her, the princess likes everything about everyone (I had a wild hope she would become the demon lord herself out of disappointment after meeting the heroes and wanting them to do something heroic, again thinking she'd be Mao's polar opposite or maybe even getting coached by her, but we saw how far that went) and that's it.
The OP and ED are catchy, the character design is top notch, there are some okay moments here and there but the anime falls apart the moment it loses Mao's and Mei's support. I don't know how deep namori is involved in endro but I feel the same lack of spunk I saw in yuru yuri S3 and nachuyachumi (except rather than not taking risks they neutered the source material in what I assume was some insane mass market appeal attempt… Deep in the show's third season).
I sort of agree. It's basically just…I can't say soulless because that's not what it is, but it's shallow. You feel frustrated because the story doesn't seem to give you anything. There's a lot of content but it feels like entire episodes of filler content or rather rushed content that's rushed so far it becomes essentially filler since there's no exploration or depth in there at all.
It feels, well, low energy. Anaemic.
Agreed as well
I still like the show and it makes me smile but it feels like they're either trying to hard or not trying at all with a lot of the gags, and the main characters don't really have much character to them at all, sadly.
Mei-san has the best taste in clothes.
Uwaah she knows the proper way to wear garterbelt. Meruchan is so smart!
I didn't drop the show but all I'd be able to say would be 'this is cute'. There's not a whole lot to talk about.
It's pretty depressing that the show has fallen so far from the first episode.
A flat chest is fine, too; Seira is the cutest.>>29262

Chestlets are bestlets.
I like it best when Fai nibbles on Seira's ears.
That's probably my favorite thing in this whole show.

See, this is the kind of stuff I'd like to actually see more of. Give them a reason to go out into the world and travel. Cartado is the most interesting thing about this universe so far, mainly because it's something original that seems to fit with whatever little of the world has been established. A lot of other things feel like an awkward idea only brought up for convenience of a plot point that will be used 5 minutes after it's mentioned and then never heard of again (compare Mei's dream to Fai's).
I might have gotten into this anime in the wrong frame of mind. Maybe it was always meant to just be something to watch leisurely while not thinking too hard about it. But isn't the point of the anime to show how the "ever after" is just as, if not more interesting than the main story? As it stands it only reinforces the notion that there's nothing more after the final page of the book. Just cute girls doing cute things. Well, I guess that's the kind of peaceful world everyone wants to protect and is the result of the heroes' actions.
The main problem is that they decided to introduce a ton of interesting stuff in a story that's clearly designed to be braindead CGDCT, so you're left with a feeling of "yeah but what about this thing you mentioned earlier". It doesn't help that none of the characters could really hold their own except for Mao, at least with my opinion. Elf was alright but that's because I fucking love elves.
