Getting kind of an early 00s vibe to this, especially the ED.
It is directed by Hiroaki Sakurai.

I think she's a bit big to call her that…
They do have to live on 40000 yen a month in a four person household.
That's a seriously petty curse but I guess it's effective.
What weapons do hurt a magical girl?

This show was bloody fun.

Brazil will never ever live that one down
I'm really glad they translated kilometers to miles so my American brain wouldn't short circuit. Thanks CR!
it's not CR
there's some other (new?) company doing the simucast for a lot of stuff this season
they's even worse than Amazon
They're translating yen to dollars too. Did Frostii go legit or something?
Is that why the subs keep moving to the center of the screen? It's not just me right? I've tried with 2 players and my phone.
I've seen that in a few shows lately; it drives me nuts.
You have one job, subbers!
The Horriblesubs bot can't rip hidive properly, download erai-raws if it bothers you.
That caught my attention too
the crystals not actually floating but just hanging by strings is a nice touch
She probably can't afford proper floating crystals.

i really love this show
ye this is definitely the positive surprise of the season
She really makes some cute noises. The voiced SFX are fun, too.
She has the same VA as Kasumi from AsoAso.

Too cute of the season
That shirt looks unironically fashionable
as opposed to ironically fashionable
Get poked by sausages for a bag of sausages.
It's bad manners to attack mid-transformation.
The ancestor failure is named Lilith and dresses like THAT
What do you think

I don't know what to make of this anime. I'm in love with its sound design. The chiptune SFX are a treat, the dubbed onomatopoeia are a cute addition and the OP is beautiful. But what's the tone the anime is aiming for? It's like the anime is torn between two directors and there's no better example of this than the contrast between OP and ED themes. I'm getting a really mellow vibe from the anime but it's got its fair share of hyper moments. Momo's delivery is so paused and grounded, Shamik– Shadow Mistress Yuuko-sama's growling and general roughhousing is well delivered but not all-out, there's a gentleness to it. Even the genki girl is more on the kind side of things rather than excited. It doesn't fit the premise, but then it does?
I can't help putting my serious over-analyzing hat on and think about Momo more than any other character. I doubt the source material goes into anything too serious, but Momo dropping hints she doesn't like being a magical girl and the way she treats SMY-sama makes her look to me like a depressed girl looking for a new chance at life. She probably hates being a magical girl because she has to act excited, smile and be honest about her feelings which clashes with her kuudere personality. But the tone! The tone is making me see this as a coming-of-age iyashikei even though it's a wacky slice-of-life comedy!
Being a magical girl means adhering to the logic of a 10 year old. Momo is a lot older than 10 years at this point. It could just be that she's grown out of it, at some point 'punch it to death' is not a feasible answer to all the world's woes.
Since she's already said she's more of a cunning type than a violent one, maybe keeping Yuuko under her thumb is how she's doing her magical girl duties. It doesn't seem like she'd really want to look out for an enemy even if they are a harmless one. But I can't really see her abandoning Yuuko if she got in actual trouble, either.
Didn't she say she retired from mahou shoujo-dom and that saving the world is pretty common?
Her mom seems to be keeping a secret from her too. Maybe they are actually sisters
Does NBR or not matter with sister yuri?
is this english?
Not him but NBR = Non-Blood Related
I dunno what he's trying to get across with the post but I can translate that part at least. It's usually a derogatory term used by incestfags to denounce incest that isn't 'real'.
Personally, I find gay incest more palatable than straight incest.
The only good kind of incest is the type between real brothers/sisters, aunts/nephews, and so on
Fake adopted types are boring, especially if it happened later than when they were like 5-8 years old. If you get a stepsister when both of you are teenagers it literally doesn't count, there's neither the dynamic of siblings nor the taboo of the act itself.
Nobody's saying they don't like incest.
She still transforms sometimes so it seems more like an official retirement from an organization rather than totally giving it up. But rather than manipulating Yuuko, it could be that she feels a bit sorry about her predicament and is trying to keep Yuuko from being steamrolled by an active magical girl. Would defeating a retiree even satisfy the conditions to lift the curse?
Well I mean it's arguable if even an active magical girl would attack a demon girl who's not…being particularly evil? Shamiko is doing things like working part time at takoyaki stands so she can eat out and taking jogs. Is it really what Nanoha would - OK well Nanoha is Nanoha but you get the point.
Mahou shoujo seems more like her species than her job. I think she's just retired as a professional one.
I've seen the fumuhiro doujins. You can't fool me with that friendship crap…
I inputted the wrong kanji and forgot to spoiler the pic, how embarassing.. Mod please delete the post, I don't have the pass..
I wish I had a cute tail like that
I think the whole human species would benefit from having a tail that is cute, it would help them express themselves better.
Honestly, if there's anything you should be ashamed of is writing an ellipsis as two dots. Your typo is cute and at least you got spoiler tags right, which is more than some prominent tripfags can say. I routinely put sage into the wrong field myself, as I probably did now despite triple-checking.
Momo is smiling here like she hasn't in years……..
You should tell her she's good for nothing but that you'll be there for her anyway so she slowly becomes dependent on you and you get access to immortal succubus poon
I really love the ED.

shes actually quite well endowed for her age
Big boobs = small brain
I thought these were vlc shenanigans or an indication of time slowing down (like >>31583
) but it turns out they're deliberately lowering the brightness of the brighter scenes/sequences. Someone learned a lesson or two from sansha san'you.
What is the reason for that?
I always assumed the lowered brightness was, even today, because of the Porygon incident. Please explain what you mean about sansha san'you.
You mean the thing back in like 2000 where a ton of kids had seizures?
I mentioned sansha san'you because the anime, while pretty good, was so damn bright at times. I don't have any screenshots with me at the moment but go check the OP and ED themes to see what I'm talking about.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qj-6P-jMT_ghttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDTW-ryNvD8
Never in my life had I the need to turn down my computer monitor's brightness just to make an anime less hurtful on my retina until I watched this anime.>>31770
This has absolutely nothing to do with the porygon incident. Other anime don't usually go out of their way to do what machikado mazoku is doing. Compare the brightness of this scene >>31767
with what comes immediately before (pic related) and after. I'm pretty sure they're doing it on account of being a late night anime.
>>31771>Other anime don't usually go out of their way to do what machikado mazoku is doing.
Actually, I'm pretty sure they do. My impression is that it's an industry-wide practice, hence why I thought it must have a strong, industry-wide reason. I can't think of any other examples right now, so I'm going to leave it at that, but don't think you've won just yet!
I usually watch anime on a TV and it's way more often it's too dark than too bright. I don't think it's really meant to be watched on monitors, which tend to be much more strongly backlit than TVs.
Your time of reckoning has come, Anonymous, because I'm back and I've brought screenshots!
TD;DR: the practice dates from 2014 at least (Sansha San'you aired in spring 2016), but isn't anywhere as widespread as I felt it to be. An aesthetic motivation can be ruled out, and there is evidence both for and against my seizure hypothesis.
Screenshots: TV version on the left and BD version on the right; first two from Marchen Madchen (2018, AT-X) and last three from Ore, Twintails ni Narimasu (2014, TBS). MM from episode 5 around 15:50, OreTwin from OP. In Machikado Mazoku, the darkening is present in the MX broadcast as well as whatever Erai-Raws' source is (CR, I suppose).
There is an obvious darkening of certain scenes compared to the rest of the episode and only on TV versions. The darkening happens always in scenes with flashing lights and rapid movement. In the case of OreTwin, the TV version has been blurred by combining a few consecutive frames into one. This all supports the seizure hypothesis. However, the darkening is conspicuously missing from similar scenes from other shows of the same period, like Koukaku no Pandora (2016, AT-X) or Twin Angel Break (2017, MX). This shits all over the idea of some health regulation that mandates such darkening.
Finally, that song I've had in my head for a few days has turned out to be the Rokujouma no Shinryakusha OP.
Very good effortpost.
Rokujouma no Shinryakusha was such a good series. Not big on the actual anime though, too little Yurika.

Aren't they pretty much done growing by 16 or so though?
good news, then! I decided to waste the 2nd of my 3 wishes on making your dream come true!
expect an invitation in the mail soon!
The two of them makes such a cute couple.
It's a romance story disguised as a comedy.
It depends on the person>>31839
Momo's cute, and if you had a friend like Shamiko you'd mess with her too
The former description could apply to >>31924
as well. Same VA.
What if both characters are the same age too
Shamiko exists to be bullied but I feel like the new girl fits the recipe to be the counterpart to Lilith where she's hyped up but then brought down a peg and never ever taken seriously, so the Lilith for Momo.
That or maybe there'll be actual plot in the last few episodes, who knows, there's still half the season left for MM.>Mad le Zisell
What sub group is that?
It's a dude who typesets and lightly edits official subs. He started like two months ago.
I think the the font is a bit much and dunno why he'd leave out the OP/ED subs, but these are a lot better. The lazy typesetting of the official was really irritating me.
The bun is making me really fucking hungry. It just looks so darn soft and all around edible.
I WAS RIGHT ABOUT MOMO! Sad girl wants friends and a family and get over her past… I'm so happy there's so much plot advancement in this anime, it makes it so much more special. I hope Momo gets back her powers. I don't want it to turn into a situation where Momo has to lose all her magical power for Shamiko's family to be released from their seal. I specially do NOT want to see anything tragic happen to Momo OR ANYONE ELSE they're all so precious…
It's a great manga. Momo is basically a shell-shocked Madoka mahou shoujo. Shamiko has gone through a lot of shit too. Underneath the comedy and stuff there's actually pretty solid healing story, though I don't know how far the anime will get.
You don't need to be Japanese to read manga
Shamiko is super cute I want to lick her upper abdomen
That's rape though
What if it's consensual
Not if the balls don't touch.
Shamisen was very cute too

I thought Momo was going to call the cops on Mikan because she thought that Mikan was forcibly stripping her girlfriend.

I hope there is an episode where they all go eat pancakes or a buffet.
I wonder if Shamiko's fat milkers are also a result of the curse. Lilith seems flat.>>32083
Well yeah, that is the reason, but Shamiko keeps being called naked and such.
Shamiko looks a bit like Wiz here
Help, I can't get Shamiko's kiki kanri out of my head this whole week.
I didn't get it stuck in my head, but now you've brought it up and I spent a bit thinking about what you're on about and now it's stuck in my head too
Dumb slut is very cute.
Is Gosenzo-sama sttached to Shamiko's tail there? That seems like it'd be kind of fragile.
I like the relationship Shamiko has with Shamisen.
you sound like someone who had bad grades in school yet convinced themself that they were smarter than the rest of the students
There are several kinds of intelligence and there are ways to test for some of them but school exams test information retention and recall and/or studying skills. It's not supposed to have anything to do with intelligence.
That said, a genuinely stupid person is still going to have a rough time getting good grades anyways.
actually I had excellent grades but that's just further proof that grades are meaningless
>>32182>school exams test information retention and recall and/or studying skills
it doesn't mean you're smart
just that you have good medium-term memory (definitely not long-term lol)
also that you know how to conduct yourself during a test
there was always the kids who would panic and stuff
also you needed techniques like knowing which questions to answer first
absolutely NONE of these skills have anything to do with the real world
it's all just BS
File: orient.jpg (285.38 KB, 1920x1080) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
So Mesopotamia is "orient" for Japan…
I want to take a bite of shamiko's croissant horns.
The Orient historically actually does refer to the Middle East. The "East" in general used to refer to the Persian region, hence the name 'Far East' for China/Japan/India/SEA.
To be the devils advocate, tests that test your raw ability to solve tests are the best metric there is.
Yeah, it's like >>32188
said, the word just derives from the Latin word for east. The word "oriental" was pretty nonspecific until less than 200 years ago and even then "oriental" as referring to East Asian people was only specific in that one case. See Orientalism, Oriental Orthodox Churches, Oriental rugs, the Orient Express, etc.
To be more precise, it derives from the Latin word for "rising", oriens. Just as Occident comes from the Latin word for "falling", occidens. By association the words referred to East and West. Poetically the names of the four winds were often used.
Nice detail on the tiny well-sharpened pencils but is that a slide rule? Is Japan really still that technologically backward?!
no… that just looks like a regular ruler
and yeah the pencils are a cute detail, I saw them in previous eps too
Japanese student apparently all use mechanical pencils… but those are expensive! it only makes sense for Shamiko to use old wooden pencils and sharp them all the way up to the eraser head
Her tail is one of my favorite parts of the show. She's already really cute and expressive and that just bumps it up to another level.
File: Spoiler Image (1.4 MB, 1920x1080) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
The cutest episode.
what do you use a ruler for on a test
do japan schools test kids on drawing straight lines
