It opened me up to the world of anime and, as a child, the arc associated with the OP was one of the most complex stories I had experienced at the time. The mind fuck of Anji, who helped Sanosuke learn the punching technique, actually being a villain, and the further mind fuck of his villainy being justified, opening the way for Seta's and Shishio's motivations which were perfectly set up by Yahiko pointing out what happened to Shishio would have happened to Kenshin had he decided to stick around the revolutionaries a little longer, Saito's entire way of life, the true answer as to who had the correct philosophy never being truly found, the ominous fact that soon enough Japan as a nation wouldn't be following Kenshin's path at all. All this (and a bunch of other things before the Shishio arc) convinced me that cartoons could be more than simple stories for kids and made me believe japan was leading the break from the norm. You could say ruroken planted the wapanese seed in my heart.

I read the manga up until the start of the Jinchu arc but couldn't remember much about it because I read it all in one sitting at a relative's and was a kid then. I'm not even sure if the volumes were complete. I did remember Sanosuke's punching training and remembered trying to emulate it.

I only watched the anime and in my opinion it peaked in the Shishio arc. I've watched tsuioku hen but none of the other OVAs.

Yeah, Shishio's arc is definitely the climax of the ruroken series.

There are at least four for me in Clannad:

1)When Nagisa breaks down during their school play due to discovering her parents' past and thinking she ruined their lives only for Akio to come and encourage her telling her she's their future and it doesn't matter

2)When the wedding ceremony takes place at the school in After Story and pretty much everyone shows up thanks to Fuuko's efforts with the stars for who knows how many episodes

3)The whole episode after Tomoya and Ushio meet, both when Nagisa's parents are talking at night and when he goes to visit his father after so long.

4)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zebfh_F_SDw

-Bonus for the Tomoyo After scene where they meet at the snowy hill.

Pretty much all of these left a strong enough impression for me to remember throughout the years and I will always remember them as they're really nice about portraying the importance about family and bonds no matter what shape they take.
