I'm personally willing to give a lot of stuff a shot, except Runway de Waratte as while the girl was rather pretty and the artstyle was interesting I found the manga to be pretty boring and just couldn't stand more than 20 chapters. Otherwise as long as it's not a 2nd season or more of something I wasn't already watching it's fair game for me.

 No.34226

Lots. Definitely Doga Kobo, Masaaki Yuasa, Somali, Yatogame, Camping Girls, Hulaing Babies and Natsunagu. Cautiously optimistic about Shield Girl, KemonoBand and Monmusu Brothel. Maybe Kuutei Dragons.

 No.34227

Going to watch Koisuru Asteroid, Darwin's Game, Eizouken, Dorehedoro, Yatogame, and Heya-Camp

>Cautiously optimistic about Shield Girl
I didn't realise the shield isekai had a girl MC. Heikinchi taught me that that doesn't automatically make an isekai enjoyable for me, but this one has an appealing cast and staff. Guess I'll check it out after all.
I share your interest in shorts, tentatively add Rebirth to the list, and am pleasantly surprised by more Hulaing Babies.

>>34228
I'm always up for more Railgun too. Last time around, fans complained about the anime-original parts, but I didn't care; they were good enough for me. As for meduka, I had planned to be a bitter old fan myself and pass on it for trying to milk the franchise, but the truth is it looks genuinely good from the preview. So I'm in for both, too.

My only other musts are asteroid, Yatogame and bandori (despite what they did last time, yes). I have weird hopes about the scientists' romcom and will try a few more things.

Movie-wise, my guiltiest pleasures are being tickled with haifuri, FAG, and the strike witches spin-off.

Maybe Murenase! Seton Gakuen, Koisuru Asteroid and Kuutei Dragons.

Rail Gun and Madoka have been on my backlog for like a decade so I need to watch the originals before I watch the sequels.
Also need to finish Yatogame-chan 1 before I start 2.

Also I'm pretty sure I tried reading Kyokou Suiri a long time ago and never got into it. I might try that one too. Nekopara also might be good to just shut my brain down and look at cute things.

Lastly I'll try Breakers if there are any cute amputee girls.

I would scold you but there's a few famous shows that have been on my backlog for like a decade too.

 No.34244

>>34242
Well you can scold me anyway as it's not just those two.
I also haven't seen Code Geass, Neon Genesis Evangelion and K-On, and have only seen a few episodes of Haruhi, Full Metal Alchemist, TTGL, Cowboy Bebop, and a few others.

The biggest problem is that I've seen so much discussion on them that it feels like I've already watched them;
Railgun has a twintail lesbian lusting after the main girl who shoots lighting and gets cloned by a guy who's basically The Flash but a rapist. There's also a really average girl that everyone wanted to fuck.
Madoka Magica is about a lesbian constantly turning back time to save her crush from becoming a magical girl and basically selling her soul to evil mascot things. The blonde magical girl gets her head bitten off.
It's impossible to use anime imageboards and not have this stuff spoiled for you over time, which just makes me feel like putting them off longer and longer.

 No.34245

>>34244
Alright that's pretty bad indeed. In my case, I haven't seen any of the *gataris, but all of those shows I have covered for sure. What's the weather like in 2021, John Titor?

You know, a lot of the time watching things in order isn't as important as we make it out to be. It's surely the case in your examples: the new Madoka is a spin-off rather than a direct sequel, and Railgun is made up of mostly self-contained arcs. But even when a show does have plot continuity, writers don't want to drive away potential new viewers and make some attempt to put them up to speed in each first episode.

When people insist that others should watch a series in order, I think a combination of two things is going on: first, they underestimate how good people are at picking up the plot and characters; and second, they're subconsciously trying to lead them to enjoy the series the same way they did themselves, because of this thing our brain does where it tells us that whatever order we did things in is the correct order.

The way I see it, jumping in at a point in the franchise that tickles your fancy is just as fine as being disciplined and watching it in order - and if it motivates you to watch a series that you were never getting around to, I say it's even better. In fact, I think I'll take my own advice and give the new Show by Rock a chance, even though I never finished the first season.

By the way, I' haven't watched Full Metal Alchemist, TTGL or Cowboy Bebop either, and they're not even on my backlog - they just don't look like shows I'd like. I can name a character who dies in TTGL, too.

 No.34257

>>34256
You're not totally wrong, but it's always better to watch previous seasons first. The quick synopsis that writers typically do may be serviceable, but far from ideal assuming this is a series that's actually good and something you want to watch. I agree that for spinoffs; it probably doesn't matter more often than not though.

What you describe is a sensible best practice that pretty much all of us would agree on. My point is that even such a common-sense rule can sometimes be worth breaking.

Say the nth season of a show is coming up, and it looks good to you, but you haven't watched the previous n-1 seasons. Common sense says to watch them first, but is that really the best idea? The calculation goes something like this:

- What is the worst that can happen if you dive in? Being confused and unable to follow the story? Can you bail out safely after a few episodes, or will it permanently damage your ability to enjoy the series / motivation to watch it?
- What is the worst that can happen if you skip it? Will you get around to watching the previous seasons (are you making progress on that backlog?), or are you even more likely to put it off now that there's one more season on the pile?
- How likely is each of the worst-case scenarios, and which is worse?

It's a personal choice that depends on lots of variables. Additionally, the more general point I wanted to make is that, since enjoyment of anime is subjective and everyone's experience is different, you shouldn't be afraid to enjoy an anime in an unconventional way if for some reason that sounds appealing to you.

Consider the case of Symphogear. I just started GX, and noticed something: at the start of each new season, they don't summarise the events of the previous one. Instead, they show the girls doing something awesome, then something cute. What the fuck else do you need to know in order to dive in and have fun, really? That girl? Oh yeah, she used to be bad, now she's good, who cares. I passed on the latest season, but if a new one comes up before I'm caught up, I think I'll dive in instead.

To expand on my thoughts and why I feel that way I suppose it's because it takes me back to the moment when I was still feeling creatively driven. Apparently the first episode wasn't directed by Yuasa and during an interview with the director(Mari Motohashi), she mentioned how the manga draws in actual people working in the industry due to its realistic depictions of how things work. I like the fact that it goes into so much technicalities as can be seen from the newest episode. This is a proper anime about making anime. There are other decent anime I enjoy this season but personally this holds a special place for me.

Picked up Nanabun no Nijyuuni because they look like K-ONs but the VA is the typical seiyuu who can't voice for shit which at the same time makes me curious enough to continue watching like what happened with Nana Maru San Batsu.
Just expecting this lass to get defanged soon with the power of friendship and teamwork as it always happens in idol shows.

I expect even more suffering coming for the MC. So far the only interesting thing is "the Wall" stuff and the fact main girl actually points out the fakeness of the idols so hopefully she'll keep the emo act a bit longer.

Eerily fitting.

This anime is a weird one. At a glance it looks like it's trying to be a more serious or realistic idol anime, but then it hits you with The Wall. It's very hard at first to marry The Wall with the rest of the anime, but it's growing on me somehow. Every time one of the girls demands an explanation for some absurd turn of events only to be told that you don't question The Wall, is funnier than the previous time. And there's also something humorous about a bunch of adults, with their suits and their responsibilities, fussing about what The Wall said.

You'd be fussing about The Wall too if it meat not getting chokeslammed off the top of the sheraton, brother

 No.35119

Isn't the Wall some sort of metaphor for the faceless businessmen that run the show and must be obeyed without question? I'm only waiting for the Wall to start asking for ridiculous stuff, that or it's gonna get wacky and we're gonna get space idols by the end of the series.

Sometimes I miss the brazenness of SAO with its glop chapter. Are there decency laws prohibiting teenagers in shows from being implied to have had sex or something? Because it does feel like a thing that used to be a little more common, and even somthing that's common sense (if you put a bunch of horny superpowered 15 year olds together with little to no effective adult supervision how is it possible they don't eventually do the dirty?). Is it like alcohol consumption and the dumb shit where even hardcore yakuza kids and window smashers only drink juice?

No. In fact Japan officially announced they would be ignoring the UN's suggestion to ban sexual content with fictional minors.

 No.35429

Surely it's because there must be laws against broadcasting that sort of material, no doubt. There's that Youth Ordinance Bill for example that regulates the portrayal of incest in a positive light across a variety of media that underages can watch or read, with the addition of other "harmful material" (like rape) so there must be more of those laws for sure.

Then again Yosuga no Sora flew really close to the sky after that one got approved and only stuff like Aki Sora took a hit, plus manga and light novels seem to be getting raunchier every year so either the laws are getting laxer or everyone is ignoring them in favor of happiness and money.

 No.35431

>>35428
Yeah but that's more of a wide net thing, but it doesn't say anything about whether or not shows that broadcast on public television are automatically allowed to do that, for example. There's a difference between what is basically protection of freedom of expression and public decency laws.

>>35429
The incest thing is really gay and I dunno how Yosuga no Sora didn't get hit for it since I'm pretty sure Sora outright gives an under the desk blowjob within the first few episodes.
Still, I'm not thinking outright p0n0s in vag00 stuff. I'm more thinking of implied fucking, which shouldn't be illegal, even Sesame Street had that.

Wasn't that just some unofficial thing on the author's blog? I remember him begging people to forget about it.

>>35431
>>35429
Bill 156 of the Metropolitan Ordinance happened right around the end of the season the YnS anime aired in. They actually discussed it during the proceedings and concluded it didn't violate it. It doesn't have a ton of teeth other than some restrictions and stuff with regards to manga and anime but really just had a huge chilling effect on the industry with stuff getting canceled or censored just out of fear of being restricted.

 No.35435

>>35432
>wasn't that just some unofficial thing?
I'm almost certain the first run of the LN included the gloppening, it just got excised into its own thing after SAO blew up iirc. I could be wrong.

It was just a couple lines in the web novel implying they might have done ecchi things which was removed for the publication. The actual chapter 16.5 was just a doujin story on the website. I think you have a false memory or something. There can be sex but there isn't going to be something that explicit in a mass-market light novel.
