It's a lofty and perhaps unrealistic goal but I'd love to someday be able to read some of his untranslated doujinshi as well. I think a lot of them are untranslated.

Have you read Ryuushia Ryuushika? I really enjoy it, it's like a psychedelic Yotsuba. Ryuushika's a little girl with a wild imagination trying to make sense of the world and her surroundings. Most of it is translated, just missing a few chapters in the last volume, and every page is coloured in with some beautiful spreads.
yuyu !shikiX2qYo 01/03/20 (Fri) 18:28:30 No. 34425
I read the first couple chapters when they first got scanlated but nothing past that. Been meaning to read the whole thing, it was really charming and the art was gorgeous.
To my knowledge he has some other manga too like Pochiyama at the Pharmacy and I am an Alien I Have a Question, but from what I can find doing basic googling they're only partially translated and the efforts to do so are pretty dead.

Yeah, it's a shame because there's not too many chapters in the first place. I recently started learning Japanese with the aim of one day completing Pochiyama (I just think she's really cute) but I'm not really at a level where I can read it, let alone do a TL. I figured it's better that I try to do something than just sit, wait and pray but it's going to take some time. Hey, maybe someone else will pick it up before I can!
Oh really? Nice, I saw one new chapter go up last year but somehow didn't notice they finished it.

Nice. Me too, although not with that specific aim. See
. I suck hard though so it'd be like, 4 years from now that I'm able to.

Not really, ABe just did the art and character design for Lain. Yasuyuki Ueda is not a hack though!

As much as I like the aesthetics associated with this kind of stuff it always irks me a bit how everyone seems to remember VHS as some ultra-lossy characteristically distorted medium. You'd have to really abuse a tape for it to get this bad.
Anonymous 02/21/20 (Fri) 05:01:34 No. 35597
VHS is easier to ruin than discs (stored well) which are easier to ruin than downloaded files. They also have a smaller capacity iirc so they tend to be grainy and their sound quality is pretty garbage. It's probably filtered nostalgia for the grain and shit sound mixed with the reality that it's pretty easy to fuck a tape by accident.
Anonymous 02/21/20 (Fri) 15:11:41 No. 35602
If by accident you mean by being an idiot who doesn't know how to properly store cassettes then yeah.

I'm watching Haibane Renmei yet again lol. Everytime I watch it I get something new out of it though. Regarding what I was discussing about the crows in that other thread, Kana says something interesting about why she's so mean to them.
It's something to the effect of she doesn't want them to become too comfortable or dependent on Glie, lest they stop having a reason fly over the walls. And this makes perfect sense if you assume they carry messages/prayers/thoughts from the world of people who are still alive and are thinking of those who became Haibane.
Also while listening to the ED it struck me that for a while now it has sounded weirdly familiar. Turns out it's the same artist who does the ED for Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita, another one of my favorite shows, also with an amazing ED! I'll have to look up more of their stuff, they have a really enchanting voice.

Nice catch on the ED, I saw Jinrui so long ago that I completely forgot but I also love the singer's voice, there's something almost ethereal about it.
Always something new to discover from Haibane, I've seen it 6 times now and always come away with something to think about.
In many ways Kana's thoughts on the crow mirror the rules set for the Haibane. They don't earn money, have to use second hand goods, go to specific stores and live in abandoned buildings. All so they don't get too attached before their Day of Flight comes.

I was doing a bit of waxing nostalgic on when I used to stream for you all and since it was mentioned in another thread I figured I'd ask here to gauge interest. Would any of you be interesting in getting together to watch Texhnolyze or Niea_7? What sort of frequency and time would make for the best stream? I've seen neither and have been meaning to for the longest time, and I can't think of a better way to watch them than with Sama.

>>35692 >Would any of you be interesting in getting together to watch Texhnolyze or Niea_7?
Yeah I vote for Texhnolyze. I'm on the fence about Niea_7 due to it's opening, you know, THAT opening.
About frequency, a couple of episodes per day sounds nice but I'm open to suggestions or availability, maybe on weekends if it's too hard. How about making a new thread for the samastreams? Maybe we could also watch another series too, like I don't know IM@S Cinderella and watch it with that other anon if up to it or something.
And time it depends on whoever is joining and where they reside or can join. Are you acquainted with the Toradora streams? Well I can make it around when those happen, but eurofriends seem to find that time really tricky so I'll keep an eye out to see if we can make a samastream happen.
Anonymous 03/02/20 (Mon) 17:35:26 No. 35750
A stream sounds like a good time. Either anime is fine with me as I've seen them both already, I'm wondering if we should consider Derrida too? I know it's got a bad reputation but I haven't seen it yet and maybe it would be fun to watch with others?
Timewise I'm a Euro so weekends would probably be best but as long as it doesn't go too late I could probably manage a nighttime stream.
I've never caught the Toradora streams, way too late for me. Sorry!
yuyu !shikiX2qYo 03/02/20 (Mon) 21:22:21 No. 35752
Awesome. I'll put up a new Samastreams thread soon and try to nail down a time that works for people. I think I'd like to start with Texhnolyze but from there I'm open to anything. I'd certainly like to watch Derrida as well, reputation aside, just to say I have. Cinderella Girls as well has plenty of cute girls in it so I'm down with that too. Is that the one with Iori in it?
>Timewise I'm a Euro so weekends would probably be best but as long as it doesn't go too late I could probably manage a nighttime stream.
Does something like 3pm or 5pm EST work? If only on weekends.

That's regular Idolmaster, which considering you didn't know which one she was in, you should start with that.

Great news. However, it'll probably be a week or so before I start because I just committed to watching some stuff with other people online, sorry! The responses to my streaming post were a little ill-timed lol

Oh I see. She's one of the cutest but my IM@S knowledge is really pretty limited to certain areas of "research".

I have, hope I've done a decent job of not spoiling too much during the stream. I cannot wait to see your reactions to Friday's episodes, out of curiosity have you heard anything about them or are you watching blind?

I last watched it like 10+ years ago. I barely remember anything besides it being completely whack.

So now that we're done with Texhnolyze thanks to the samastream first let me say that after a break I've been thinking about the series for some time already, hours maybe, and the more I think about it the more I reach new conclusions (or should I say, theories?) And the fact that it has had such an effect on me already makes it pretty good in my book and I definitely won't be forgetting it anytime soon.
The anime was very straightforward in what it shows you but the more I think about the actions and motivations of every character, the clashing of many different philosophies/ideologies and how everything developed it suddenly has a very meaty and delicious ass. Since we talked a bit on the cytube chat and my mind is jumbled right now, and also to avoid writing many posts filled with the ramblings of a simple anon just let me say I change my stance, the most touching death wasn't from Onishi or even Ran, but the secretary Michiko as she was left behind to fend off by herself and ended up gangraped and broken to the point of asking to get killed even though she never did anything wrong. And also just a simple question. At what point did Ichise doom everyone to suffer in the series like Ran predicted? Was it by killing Yoshii who was a big force of change, strong enough to actually defy what Ran saw like preventing the Elder's death? Or was it due to him killing Kano, who might have yet to finish the whole evolution plan or might have been a sort of "God" (so this series' solipsism take maybe? given he was going on about how he was the sanest, how he discovered Lux was actually inside his head and his "sister" was also the all-seer)? Maybe it was due to other of his actions like leaving Ran in Lux while leaving to the surface? And funny, I remember either icicle or DC'dsama mentioning something about the guy talking about the eyes and stuff, scene which was seemingly trivial there but makes a lot of sense considering what Doc said near the end. Same guy who was shot when the lights went out. And it's only due to that intrusion in the chat that I still remember that scene in detail lol, thanks guys.
