Although the animation left to be desired (which I pray doesn't mean it's going to the shitter later down the road) the soundtrack was very pleasant, and the visuals are really nice, this boosted it a lot for me

Even the crowds avoided the CGI curse that plagues a lot of stuff nowadays so I'm glad about that

And even if there's CGI around at least it doesn't look that bad and it's mostly contained to the eye and the ED for now (or maybe there was more and my own eyes are still lacking training)

Like I said, wholesome. I can guarantee though that there's gonna be people who are gonna get bored by the first episode or later on because it feels like a slow burner and the info dump certainly felt forced but hopefully I'm wrong and it manages to not get forgotten by the time the 5th episode comes around, who knows.

>>34542>Although the animation left to be desired
What makes you say that? It was more than adequate. This is the kind of show that relies far more on art quality and coloring as opposed to straight up animation.
To my eyes, this show seemed very low on CG generated backgrounds which was a nice surprise since anime these days abuse the fuck out of them. I'm not even sure why they used CGI in the ED. That's kind of a weird choice.
Hopefully they managed their budget and time well enough. The info dump being mostly stills is to be expected honestly. It's a bit disappointing that they couldn't think of a better way to convey that information to the viewers, but I don't think there will be any more sequences like that.

Yeah, let's see how it turns out. I was hoping more of the cat though.
The scene when Somali muttered her first "otou-san" completely made my heart go キュン. I'm still unsure about Golem's choice of VA. The first episode has been a mixed bag for me, I hope it would get better.
>>34577>I'm still unsure about Golem's choice of VA.
The VA made me think "emotionless robot slowly learning to feel things" which I think was the intent.
I haven't started this yet, however I've been a big fan of the manga for a while.
I'm really excited to see Samachan's reactions to two arcs in particular.
All I see is possibly edible are fungi and some slug looking thing, so I'm not sure how you would draw the "tasty" conclusion to begin with.
you were clearly hungry>>34657
might as well give it a try so you can read the manga with the anime voices in your head from here on out
It's a fat puffball

This is how I imagine anon's brain works.
Oh I plan on giving it a try, I'm just very very slow at getting to things.
If I haven't started it by the time I start seeing a witch
or a harpy
posted here then I'll get on it immediately.
Also the manga's gone like a year without a new translated chapter even though it isn't axed or anything. I'm excited to see if the anime gets further than where the manga's at.
What happened to the Mahoutsukai no Yume manga? I thought the adaption was enjoyable.
Now that you mention it though, this feels really similar in a hard to describe way. Is it the same author or studio?
It takes a stereotypical melodramatic shoujo manga turn and the characterization and character development break down really noticeably. The awkward romance stuff and kind of smut-novely vibes were there from the beginning however so it's possible that it was always going to go that way and I was just expecting something I shouldn't have from it. It's been a few years since I've kept up with it but the quality of the art didn't drop so don't let my opinion dissuade you from reading it if you were interested.
This manga is a proper travel/adventure kind of thing unlike that one and actually has kind of a more serious tone despite the more colorful and lively art style. I don't really want to compare the golem to Elias because their roles are completely different but I definitely like him more as a character.
I always treated Mahoutsukai no Yume as a slutty shoujo with some surprising amount of nice character interaction myself so I guess I just wasn't as caught off by the transition now that I picked it back up. I actually find it a bit tough to find where you see this happening, though at some point post Leanan-Sidhe I get a distinct feeling of shalloness from it.
Somali to Mori has a cuter main character though and it seems to be keeping its development better judging from your appraisal so maybe I'll pick that one up too.
Dangit now I need to start for real.
OP you fucking liar. This show isn't wholesome. It's just depressing.

It's depressing in a wholesome way if that makes sense. I didn't know
>>35443>depressing in a wholesome way
Probably the most accurate description of this series.
That's what makes it wholesome

I finally got to it and watched all there is currently in one sitting.
While I understand why they would skip the human hermit story, the fact they skipped over the Witch one is baffling to me. The Witch story was key in not only giving Golem and Somali a destination to reach, but in establishing that Golems are human creations.
It was also one of the most heart wrenching stories in the manga next to the Harpy one, which I'm glad they included.
However with the Harpy story they missed one of my favorite moments, where after Haitora tells Golem how Somali is in danger, his giant eye instinctively opens. They also skipped over how Haitora was actually legitimately enslaved and saw people get eaten right in front of him while he escaped, which makes his murder of Uzoi's mom make more sense.
I can only assume these are for time reasons, since the Witch story may have taken three entire episodes and the human hermit would have taken one.
It seems they replaced the destination from the Witch story with some hearsay from patrons at the restaurant, which is both impressive and absurd.
Other than these issues it's a good adaptation, and I'm glad to be reminded of the story again… well, most of it, but you know what I mean.
Uzoi's animation is really good given the rest of the show's animation has been very average.
The voice actors all fit their roles, with maybe the exception of Shizuno, who, despite knowing he's male, made me think he was female in the anime.Speaking of Shizuno, I look forward to the upcoming episodes.
At this rate it will surpass where the manga currently is translated at before the finale, and depending on what happens after the current point in the manga it may justify cutting the Witch story.

Also Somali's seiyuu is in particular great.
I need to pick up the manga too.
They might be able to get to the witches later with some shuffling around or flashbacks or something. But yeah, I think it would be stronger as a whole if it was properly included, even if they had to end it right around when they part ways with their feathered friends rather than getting farther into volume 4.

If you like the anime then I'd highly recommend the manga.
It's the anime but with better art, more world building and more details.
Just be prepared for the scan qualities to dip after the Harpy story and for translations to end abruptly.>>35585
Agreed, and it seems they are shuffling it around according to >>35590
Which makes even less sense to me than not including it if I'm being honest. I don't know why it's place in the story would be changed, but I'm glad it's getting included regardless.
Well at least I was able to find scans of all the volumes pretty easily. I can't say that for everything out there. Hopefully the scan quality isn't too bad.
I read on Mangadex and starting with Chapter 22 the quality of the scans decreased noticeably.
I just checked an all the raws on nyaa and they're all 1000px+ scans. Sounds like whoever is doing the translation needs to step it up.
Well I only said there was a quality dip, not that it became unreadable.
Well I don't know where the translator got their raws from, but in like two seconds I found 1125x1600 scans for volume 4 which beats the hell out of that 644x910 image posted earlier. It makes me think they didn't try very hard.
