Is this due to characters making emphasis about the fact they're female ending up being males or something? If so I can understand why it's weird and it would be funny although we have seen her in panties already

This just made me very confused about what the word "extinct" means in-universe. Like, they're very clearly still alive.
Anonymous 03/11/20 (Wed) 02:46:18 No. 35855 >>35854
Well there surely is some advanced genetic engineering going on in their world, otherwise this whole thing about only females being human-looking doesn't make much sense.
It would also explain why the humans seem to be really rare to the point Hitomi hasn't seen another female until now, as humans being as popular as they seem to be probably means they took part in some heavy interspecies mixing thinning out their numbers or something.
At least that's my headcanon.
Anonymous 03/11/20 (Wed) 03:37:28 No. 35859
Formerly extinct, perhaps. Or maybe beings on the verge of extinction, though that would be a weird choice of name for the department as a whole
Anonymous 03/17/20 (Tue) 10:09:51 No. 35960
Man, I feel dumb now, it's so obvious in retrospect. So she's
a Neanderthal, which were probably driven to extinction by modern humans, hence why she's in the extinct department. I thought for sure she was a H. sapiens sapiens who'd been raised to be a superweapon against her own species, like in that one anime that still gives me the creeps today. The fact that females from all species look just like Homo joshikouseiensis was very convenient to hide this plot point.
Anonymous 03/17/20 (Tue) 11:25:24 No. 35961
Neanderthals going extinct seems like a bit of a puzzle but might legitimately have to do with spawn points
They looked to have pretty decent 'stats' so to speak; they weren't dumber than modern humans, or weaker, but their population seems to have been seriously struggling even before H. Sapiens Sapiens encountered them.
Anonymous 03/17/20 (Tue) 13:08:44 No. 35964
That's interesting, I didn't know that. Pity that hominids don't let facts or history get in the way of a good grudge, inter-species or otherwise.

I don't know, given there's some populations with Neanderthal genes even today (
) they could be considered to be alive with us in a way,
like the baribari lion this episode.
Not realistic but it is funny to think there was enough interbreeding with them and the Denisovans, and them being so small in numbers, that they were driven to extinction via mating with human ancestors. I would certainly take a chance with Anetoni-san and help her boost their numbers.
>Pity that hominids don't let facts or history get in the way of a good grudge, inter-species or otherwise.
Pretty much, for all we know we just "lucked out" by anatomical differences, technological advances or different diets which led to our survival as a species but had nothing to do with their extinction as a whole so there would be no reason to have such a grudge.
Anonymous 03/17/20 (Tue) 15:05:05 No. 35966

Or even less. Y. Pestis (aka the Black Death) remains from prehistory are found mostly in Eurasia. Climate variance means that fresh vegetables and fruit grow in the neanderthal home region for a shorter span of time than in Africa or the Fertile Crescent, which is a big problem because humans are one of the only animals that can't make their own vitamin C. The huge forests across Europe at the time possibly weren't well suited for humanoid habitation. Or maybe it was something stranger or even more mundane, like legitimate luck - an epidemic that just happened to keep their populations low, habitats that drifted apart instead of clumping together, or resources that just didn't come together like they did for homo sapiens. There was evidence that tool use among Neanderthals was at a *slightly* earlier stage - specifically the tools that humans used at the time were so much more effective that they apparently spread worldwide within a thousand years. Maybe that made the difference, though Neanderthals apparently adopted these tools rapidly upon contact with human populations.
One of the leading theories is that they legitimately were just bred into extinction. Some models suggest that there were as few as 10 000 Neanderthal individuals in the entire world by the time of H. Sapiens Sapiens contact, meaning humans outnumbered them by a huge factor. The Neanderthal populations were already struggling and fragmented - maybe humans simply outcompeted them with sheer numbers, maybe humans could cooperate more, or maybe they were just absorbed into the gene pool and ceased to exist as separate peoples.
Anonymous 03/17/20 (Tue) 16:19:55 No. 35969
Bred into extinction, huh? The doujins write themselves.
An: "I'll do to you what your species did to mine!"
Jin: "Funny you'd say that, because according to genetic evidence…"
Ensue high-intensity blushing, and angry undressing.
Anyway I'm happy I hit that button that wakes up the PhDs in samachan.
Anonymous 03/17/20 (Tue) 23:08:35 No. 35972 >>35966
Well, humans in the setting of the show appear to be really rare as seen by the school only having one human pair and Hitomi having never seen a human girl before besides her so I like to think we would be helping both sides via interbreeding (even if it means we end up destroying both species to have a new mixed one).
Although I don't know if human females would take a chance as easily with Neanderthal males.
That would be great although I don't hold hopes for some of those nice doujins given the mild reception and An-chan being gay for Hitomi, talk about genetic dead ends.
Anonymous 03/18/20 (Wed) 06:45:56 No. 35980
All things considered Neanderthals didn't exactly look alien. They arguably looked more human than some 'humans' today (thinking of e.g. Aboriginal Australians or African pygmies) and they were pretty much just broad, heavyset people with a large brow. Sort of like a mix of North African and a heavily muscled stereotypical viking I guess.

Also cliffhanger lol. Does this mean there's a second season coming, or are they just trying to get people to read the manga?
