I liked the one with the weird fruit theme?
Gaim was fantastic, good taste.
Are you watching Zio?
Man this hits me somewhere deep down. I found it at my lowest low and arabesque really resonated with me. That song, the character in a perfect field with superimposed text are burned into my memory now.

This one has an anime adaptation too, guess we could watch that one someday
The Case of Hana & Alice is kinda awful objectively speaking. The backgrounds are filtered photos, the animation is mostly cg and what little is drawn is rotoscoped. Story was passable though.
No I was looking into all the Shunji Iwai stuff back when The Case of Hana & Alice came out. I watched that then looked at others so I wasn't aware of anything since then. Would you say it's worth watching?
How embarrasing forgetting my subs.>>17468
Well, the director's cut is very long ( 3 hours and a half) and i have to admit it got me mad when i saw it because i felt it was unnecesarily long, afterwards i realized that is just like 2 films in one, with the first one being about the main character losing everything (not that she had much to begin with) due to her dumb lies and lack of trust, and the second one about she regaining something back by making her first real friend
In conclusion, is a nice film but i don't think it's a masterpiece nor particularly beautiful, but if you liked his older stuff i am sure you will enjoy it.

You don't happen to know anywhere to find April Story do you? I've never been able to find it.
Here is an old (and also slow) magnet in 720p. You can find the same version and 1080p in avistaz if you have an account.magnet:?xt=urn:btih:6b3c5fc351d59f5f55df3b30508da3c3a8cb3efb&dn=April.Story.1998.Bluray.720p.DTS.x264-LooKMaNe%20%5bPublicHD%5d&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.publicbt.com%3a80%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2fglotorrents.pw%3a6969%2fannounce

apologies, I'm not watching Zio currently–I've been catching up on another show I'd backlogged for a while… so much to see, so little time>>17455
that should be Gaim! I think…
What is this mysterious backlogged show?
The last scene of this puts a dumb smile to my face.

Zigeunerweisen: Second Seijun Suzuki's film and first in his "Taisho trilogy" after his 10 years ban for daring to film Branded to Kill, which was his first arthouse film after being a B-movies director.
The plot in Zigeunerweisen is very nonsensical but a lot of the things that happen in the screen are there to confuse the viewer or the characters, for example through the film we see many 'repetitions' of previous scenes but they contain some subtle differences.
It deals mostly with the relationship between the 2 main characters (and the women around them, in particular they get involved with each others wifes, or do they?), Aochi who is an scholar in the military academy and Nakasago, his ex-colleague, who quit to travel around japan and fuck women, and is strongly suggested that he has also killed some of them.
Also Nakasago develops a bone fetish early on.
This looks really neat. I'll have to watch it sometime soon.
This looks funny I will watch it before bed. Thank you for the webms and description, I always enjoy seeing them.
Watched this, very silly and great.
Watched Norweigan wood. It was okay, it has some pretty scenery but if you haven't already read the novel just go read that instead of watching this.
I haven't seen much films in the past years but I did watch a lot of Japanese/Asian movies prior to that including most that has been posted, many of which I really liked. I wish I could bring myself into the discussion but all I have are bits and pieces of incoherent memories.
Running off a cliff and then landing in the worst killzone imaginable.
That must suck.

Chungking express: Is the older brother of >>17318
, and to me better in every way.
It tells 2 different stories about cops that just got out of a relationship. The first one happens at night, and the guy is waiting for his ex to call him to get back together, while he collects expired pineapples cans. After a while he falls in love with a smuggler that is not very interested in him, and things happen i guess.
File: crossover.webm (12.82 MB, 1200x720) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
The second one happens at day, and in this one the store girl falls in love with the cop. After he said something along the lines that he can only take gradual changes, she starts going into his house to clean it so he can feel happier. Also the ending to this is great.

Woman in the dunes: MC is a cool teacher that takes a 3 day permission to capture sand bugs. He sleeps for a while on the sand, and because it's too late to go home on that day one villager has the great idea that he spends the night on the house of a woman. (There are no inns or hotels because the village is poor).
The night goes on normally. The woman is a widow and talks some shit about sand rotting stuff. Apparently she works at night shoveling sand outside so her house doesn't get buried. Then the next day these crazy villagers remove the stairs and leave him trapped down there. They want him to become a couple with the woman and help her shovel sand.

The Kirishima thing: High school drama about how the sudden dissapereance of Kirishima affects the people of the school. Acting and cinematography are good, plot is confusing until the first 45 minutes.
Subs not included because they are shit.
That tuning audio sounds unrealistic!
My dad was the teacher in that scene and i can confirm everything was real
Yeah well I was the ugly French Horn girl by the window and we actually faked the whole thing.
I knew what this was just from seeing the thumbnail in the front page. Want to talk about it?
Matsumoto Taiyo is one of my favorite mangaka. The OST is great too.
I was exploring/researching Chinese movies before I lost the motivation to watch films but couldn't really get into the films of more well-known directors. There are two films I found back then that I enjoyed and would like to recommend to anyone who are interested. Kaili Blues and Yi Yi, Kaili Blues is aesthetically gorgeous and shows a glimpse of life in the more remote regions of China. The premise of the film is about a man on a journey to find his lost nephew. It has a surreal and dream-like presentation. Yi Yi is a Taiwanese film that grapples with the struggles of a middle-class Taiwanese family through the eyes of the members of the family of different generations. It has wistful and existential qualities and portrays the dynamics and structure of asian society and life aptly.

I am a cyborg but that's ok: A romance film that takes place in a mental hospital between a girl that thinks she is a cyborg and a guy that can steal everything (even days of the week!).
The first hour gets brought down by unneeded computer-made special effects and direction that is a bit too aimless at times and gets good only at the last 30 minutes.
File: wet socks.webm (6.06 MB, 1280x720) Thumbnail displayed, click image for full size.
Director should have tried less hard to make the romance version of 'Someone flew over the netorareoo's Nest' and tried harder to make something more unique.
Wow I think that's the first time that word has ever been used legitimately on this website
Yuno you ruined my post!
Avistaz is open for registration if anyone is interested.
It's technically still correct meaning-wise as a compound word.
Haven't their trackers been open registration for awhile now? I remember using their anime tracker before I had AB and I use their porn tracker for JAV occasionally.
Avistaz wasn't shit so they didn't need to open registrations

HANA-BI: Crime film about a ex-cop that has to take care of his sick wife and pay his debts to the yakuza.
The paintings used in this movie were actual paintings that Takeshi himself painted after the motorcycle crash that immobilized the right side of his face. Great movie.
This film was recommended to me by a barkeep. It's a good movie that cemented Kitano's position as one of Japan's current top film directors. Kids Return is my favorite film from him.
I've always loved the intro for this series, and pretty nice that the manga got picked up after so long, guess the classics never die huh?
It's a great song and so very memorable. I don't think I'll ever get it or Rika shouting "Kanchi" out of my head.

It's up on Nyaa and also on Youtube if anyone's interested
Pic unrelated but still hot
I feel like a bottom feeder while watching it but Terrace House is pretty entertaining. I especially like Yamasato.
Since we haven't done anything in a while would the 2 of you who posted here like to stream a movie?
What movie do you feel like watching? Presumably we're limited to Japanese film.
Let's watch The Human Condition.
>>24149>Presumably we're limited to Japanese film
I too come to a website centered around Japanese media to discuss and participate in non Japanese things
Well yeah, that's my point. I don't know any good recent Japanese live actions, though, being not Japanese and all.
Not japanese is fine too>General Asian topics such as Chinese/Korean film discussion is also allowed on this board.
Anyways i have Rashomon, Tetsuo the iron man, Nobody to watch over me, In the mood for love and one litre of tears ready to go right now.>>24150
The first one or all of them?
I'd be willing to watch Rashomon or Iron Man. When would we stream this?
Does saturday 20:00 EDT sound okay to you? That would be 48 hours from now
I'm free at that time yeah
Is there another anon joining us?
Both those movies sound pretty interesting, I will watch too!
Rashomon was a pretty cool movie. The concept of telling a story from different points of view and not knowing which was the real event was clever, and the crazy bandit was well portrayed. I liked the "message" of the film too.
I am too late but tomorrow Tetsuo, at the same place and at the same time
Any chance of pushing it a week
I have some stuff that I actually *need* to do around that time
Sure, i don't mind

Johnny Cash starred in a Japanese movie?!
This is the best thing.
Apparently it's some kind of Christian movie and Billy Graham asked him to do it. Sounds weird and interesting.
If you guys are watching Tetsuo tomorrow I likely cannot join. If you wanna postpone it to Sunday I'd be delighted to join you guys but if not I hope you enjoy the movie.
One of these days I will finally clear up enugh space from my HDD and watch Shoplifters, I'm also looking forward to Mitani Koki's latest film Kioku ni Gozaimasen.
I can wait a day but it depends on whether or not the streaming anon can make it
Guess we'll wait a day then, stream anon?
Yes, i am fine with it
Shoplifters is seriously cute.

There is nothing gay about destroying the world with your best friend
This movie was powerfully weird.
I didn't understand it at all
I will write about what i understood next week
It might look like 2 weeks has passed, but in fact from my perspective i am just in time.
I feel that what makes it hard to understand at first it's that it's not clear whether we are seeing a dream or 'reality', but towards the ending we know that the only things that didn't really happen are the salaryman having a seizure in the metal wizard's hideout before the title appears and him being raped by the metal futa that is also his girlfriend.
Taking out the unconventional storytelling the 'plot' is actually 'simple':
The metal wizard gets hit in the head with a metal rod by his father when he was a kid and it gets stucks there. This makes him get off to putting metal inside his flesh, until he notices his wound is getting infected and runs towards the street asking for help only to get hit by the salaryman's car. Then they throw him off that cliff, and although it's not stated explicitly i am pretty sure he died there. After that he is brought back to life solely by his rage, and curses the salaryman to become a metal freak. Everything that happens after that is pretty clear i think, you just take what happens on the screen at face value.
The characters are nothing special really, and there are no themes that permeate the movie (unless you think the metal is an allegory to technology or something like that), but the strong points are in the atmosphere, in the style over the substance. The stop motion really helps in making the 'combat' not seem dumb, and the music gives it this weid industrial feeling (except for that one jazzy song that plays twice, that one is really out of place here).
So in summary the movie is not trying to be convoluted and deep for its own sake or something like that, the appeal is more in the feeling and in the craft than in the themes, character arcs and plot. So you are not really missing anything by not 'understanding' it, because movies like this have a niche appeal and are not considered to be "great, the best movie ever!" by everyone.
Now for the next show which might be the next week i have: Suicide club, Kagemusha and The Human Condition I, which means we have to watch that the next 2 shows, plus the ones that we didn't see from >>24153
>>24876>but towards the ending we know that the only things that didn't really happen are the salaryman having a seizure in the metal wizard's hideout before the title appears and him being raped by the metal futa that is also his girlfriend.
See, I couldn't figure that out while watching the movie. Everything was so ridiculously surreal that the metal futa thing seemed like it could've been possible, especially considering the end where he apparently penis-vored the wizard? Or the wizard vored the guy?
>appeal is more in the feeling and the craft
Hmm. I guess that could be. Honestly at the end of the day maybe what the real problem was is that I've never seen a movie like this before so I went in with certain expectations, like a plot with arcs, characters who got development, characters who are at least somewhat fleshed out, and a theme to explore. Rashomon did that, for example, so I sort of expected this movie to be at least a little similar. I've -heard- praise about it, so I expected it to be good in a 'traditional' sense. Then when it wasn't I started looking too hard for something that wasn't there and ended up frustrating myself.>>24877
Sorry, I didn't see this second post in time. If you wanna watch more movies, I can make it next week at the same time as last two times, though.
So is the streamer going to be around on Saturday?
Yes, i've decided on Love & Pop
My internet isn't cooperating at this time
I'll see if I can show up anyway but I'm not sure it'll work, it's just outright not loading the page.
Shouganai, we will try again next week
So yeah it's still not working
I'll tell you if it starts working again before sunday
