I don't know Yuno, I do like doing things in a sort of community way (talking about similar things, posting in the same threads, replying to someone's joke, play the same game in the same team/clan/guild, maybe watching something on stream together or creating-playing along some inside joke, etc.), but never once have I visited a forum or imageboard with the express purpose of making friends or lasting connections and if anything, I gravitated towards imageboards exactly due to that reason. I know you mention the ones looking for this are a minority but you yourself have thought about it in the past according to the news post. Given you're the one paying the bills I understand where you're coming from about not getting any sort of "reward" for running such a site but please don't be sad and/or frustrated. I know my posts do nothing but it's the only thing I can offer to sama and if there ever comes a time where it will die let it be known that at least someone liked it as is (it could be a bit faster but that probably requires advertising for a bit).

 No.24774

>>24773
>but never once have I visited a forum or imageboard with the express purpose of making friends or lasting connections
that's not really what i was saying nor was i implying that people come to imageboards to do this, what I was saying is that, naturally, over time, you begin to see the places you spend your time at as a community.
with other websites, especially smaller ones, you run into the same users over and over and because of the format of forums or other similar types of sites, you can message them, contact them outside of the forum, etc. you cannot do that with an imageboard, the format itself is designed with the ethereal in mind. threads go away and there's no trace of what you talked about on the internet, and trying to say to some other anonymous jackass "hey i liked your opinion on Maiden Rape Assault: Violent Semen Inferno, we should play games together or something" is not only gay but makes that person think you have ulterior motives. with forums, your posts and profile speak to your "credibility".
because most people are anonymous, really the only people you don't need to be entirely shielded around are those who choose to have tripcodes. it's why i constantly tell losers from other sites who come on here and think it should be anonymous only to fuck off, because there's nothing wrong with tripcodes and this website is not based on the principles of anonymity. the glory is that you don't have to sign up, not that you don't have an identity.
if you used live past the first few months of it being open, that's what you were doing. things like live could work swimmingly on a forum, because it doesn't take away from the forum content. you can have a chat, an IRC, etc, where members can go, and they go post on the forum and talk about other things, etc. with samachan, we traded activity and discussion for a false sense of "community", and it became detrimental to the site due to the format, so it ended.
i know samachan is a lot of things to a lot of people, and it makes me happy that there are people who have this small anime website as something that's truly important to them. but it's true when i say there's no reward to this website. i don't interact with the website like everyone else does, because as the admin, i can't join community things, i can't play games with you, etc. I can't be apart of the "community" because it's my site and getting along with others and not getting along with some becomes favoritism, and I don't ever want to be the type of admin who favors their "friends" and makes them exempt from the rules.
i have thought about it though because it's frustrating to me that while samachan has a community, it doesn't do the community aspect well, and it doesn't really do the imageboard aspect well either. when i made samachan, i wanted it to stay solely anime/japan because i don't ever want a community where people who came later are at odds with the original users because they don't like anime and they just use the "random" board. at the same time, samachan will never get to that level, so i have to wonder - what matters more? staying true to the intent of the website and keeping it how the people who come specifically for that and like that this is an explicitly anime website with discussion of politics or other dumb real world things are banned, or letting it slide because the people are generally well meaning and participate in the site 95% of the time like everyone else?
basically if you get anything out of this post because its getting rambly is that it sucks that this site will almost always be held back by the format, but i can't really risk changing anything due to alienating a lot of people who use the site for how it is. stuck between a rock and a hard place

>but that probably requires advertising for a bit

yeah you people continually say this but do literally nothing and then give the same tired excuses lol

For what it's worth I think the site is doing a fine job straddling the line that it is and I think you've done a great job making Samachan a lot of things to a lot of people, like you said. If the people who do post here wanted it to be more one way or the other they'd leave for places that are more "forum-ey" or "fast imageboard-ey", yet you have a reasonably sized core of people who still hang out here. Not that I'm advising you how to run your site but I think it's just fine so long as you care for it as much as you do, and worrying about it not being enough of this or that for certain people is doing yourself a disservice when you ought to be proud for what it is already.

Imageboards don't really have communities in the sense of aggregates of individual characters. It's more like a unique spirit of all the collective anonymous postings. Samachan has that at least.

Well in the end you're the admin, if you ever want to go crazy and make some radical changes go for it, who knows, it may work and if not well, at least you can find solace in the fact that it died by your own hand (or you could just revert it or something)

>because as the admin, i can't join community things, i can't play games with you, etc.

Just join, play FF or pokemon or whatever is going on right now with your fellow samanons. As long as you don't go banning people for a day or so because you lost or something I don't think a lot would mind. Alternatively it the admin status gets in the way just go with a different name for such activities. Just keep focus on what's for fun and what's giving privileges and everything will be daijoubu.

>yeah you people continually say this but do literally nothing and then give the same tired excuses lol

I have literally two thousand six hundred loose anime files that need sorting and over twenty thousand images that are just loose and unnamed
I want to sort them but it seems fucking ludicrous, the pictures especially since if I drop them into folders then a lot of them will need to be in six or seven different folders.

Tagging software seems like the solution but at the same time tagging software seems hard to use and I don't have any installed anyway. Does anyone have any good ideas to deal with this insane number of files?

I feel you man. I have hundreds of thousands of unsorted images with only unix timestamp filenames. I've considered tagging them but I don't actually want to modify the metadata. I think I'll thumbnail everything with nomacs and just spend some time someday going through and XMP tagging all of those, then maintain that parallel set from then on by setting aside a day every month or something to go and tag the thumbs for every new image I save, since I'm way too lazy to do it on the fly. That way I can have a tagged set of thumbnails to search through and keep the original files for use and archival purposes. This is essentially what hydrus does but without actually making a whole copy of every file and without all the backend jank and linux incompatibility. I might eventually just give up and database everything so I don't have to maintain twice as many files but at the same time I like the idea of metadata tagging too much and since I absolutely don't want to change any filenames I'll either have to find/write a SQL-reading directory sorter-browser doohickey or just run a booru instance for myself or whatever which might end up being even more hassle.

Most likely though I'll probably be way too lazy and unmotivated to do any of that and just keep accumulating unsorted images. Can't really empathize about the anime thing though since I've been meticulously curating my anime for a long time and sorting those isn't much of an issue unless you want to have them tagged with production and fansub-related data, which would be pretty cool actually and since the filename of video files isn't as historically relevant it could be achieved without modifying metadata by using tagspaces or something to just append tags to the filename. If you want to seed torrents you can make copies and remove the tags. I'm too attached to original filenames (read: too lazy) to do something like that myself though so I mostly just store notes for releases in readmes in their directories.

Plebeians who simply don't understand the appeal of Raikou.

She is insane.

She thinks she's both your mother and lover. Rational enough to get that can't possibly be, yet too perturbed to consider otherwise. An unstable psyche. Do you understand what would happen were you to hold her tight and dryhump her? The shock from seeing you rip open her skin-tight garb, exposing her chest? The paralyzing conflict of having her lover suck on her tits like a baby? Unnatural for a son to see her sexually, healthy for a lover to lust for her. Real and impossible. She asks you to stop, fearing the unknown even if it feels so right. Her mind wavers, her body too weak to stop you from pushing her to bed. She can barely beg you to reconsider as you shut her mouth with yours, invading her mouth with your tongue, desperate to taste all of her. She shakes all over, terrified of a pleasure she's never felt, moaning, legs opening. Feeling your hot throbbing boner pressed against her wet pussy returns her deluded sanity and she begs: any further is past the point of no return; she loves you and she asks you to remember how much you love her too. So you shove your length inside her in one thrust. She moans in the pleasure of a lover's embrace while sobbing for the tragedy of misguided love. With every thrust, extremes drift closer and she whimpers lewdly as they meet, legs wrapped around your waist, holding you tight in her arms. Her insanity spreads and you call her name like a lost child. Hearing you flips a switch in her mind, one she was trying so hard not to, and she cums. She moans like a whore as her pussy convulses, wringing you dry.

Regret fills her mind as cum fills her womb, but she finds no time to soak in pathos. You continue. Even though it hurts, even though her inviting pussy tightening around you only hurts you more, you continue, because you haven't had enough. You'll never have enough. You sob as she holds you tighter and call for mommy. Amidst her dramatics, she hears you. She hugs you against her chest, crying, whispering amidst sadness and pleasure, that mommy is right here. The warmth of her accepting embrace mingles with the pain. Your pace quickens, your breathing gets rougher, her voice breaks and you cum together again.

Fucking Raikou silly fixes her: it fuses both her aspects, turning her into your sugar mommy.

Madness enhancement breaks and her class shifts to Saber.

Well if you want really decently decent new one Acer and HP make probably the most solid budget monitors out there. I'm pretty sure they both have kept a well-regarded under-$100 model in production, though QC will probably be spotty. Depending on where you live though you might be able to get good ones used or surplus. I've got a few OG IBM ThinkVision monitors and a couple of those old Dell 8:5 pivot monitors that you saw in every computer lab in the world back in the 00s that I got from corporate and public surplus for under $50 apiece. Garage sales and private sellers also tend to sell really low since normalfags don't know the value of what they have and are often happy to part with genuine IBM hardware for the price of a hamburger just because they have a laptop now.

Huge weird looking bug showed up in my bedroom
It's like a cockroach or a grasshopper except it had a bulbous body that was whitish and transparent but it seemed too big to be a termite, was about the size of like a flip-phone cover when you take into account its legs and its main body was about the size of a beer bottle cap.
I failed to kill it because it sprang off at high speeds when I approached it with heavy boots

Anyone have any idea what the fuck it might be? I can't find it because it sprang behind my desk and disappeared but I'm pretty sure it's still in my room somewhere being a hidden menace.

 No.25796

>>25776
Roach and Grasshoppers aren't very similar and if you're saying that it's as big as flip phone cover but with a main body the size of a beer bottle cap then it must have really long legs, are you sure it's not a spider? Does it leap?

 No.25799

>>25796
It lept and I'm fairly certain it's not a spider. If it is I've definitely never seen a spider like that before around here. It had antennae so I'm pretty certain it was some sort of insect, not a spider.

It had legs but they were like folded together. I guess it's more like a grasshopper. The main thing that caught my eye was its whitish , semitransparent main body. And now that I think of it it was probably more along the lines of a snapple bottlecap, the beer bottle thing was its like back end or some shit, the transparent bulbous part. All I really know is it scared the bejeezus out of me.

I've killed it I think though it doesn't look quite the same as I imagine but it still has the massive antennae and the bunched up legs, but the body looked more normal than I remember. Still no idea what the fuck it is but I dropped a 10 kg dumbbell weight on it so it's rather unrecognizeable at this point.

My main fear is that this might be a different bug altogether. I don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight.

Cockroaches can be whitish sometimes. Did its legs have something like ramifications? Some cockroaches reach a point where their legs look like they have legs.

Insect nymphs can be whitish/transparent and I don't think cockroaches leap. Probably some kind of grasshopper/cricket/katydid. Curious about the bulbous bit at the end though. I had a dream about weta once, disturbing.

Something like this maybe? It was the backside that was whitish, and the stripes weren't literal stripes they were more like dents or scales or some shit. I was seeing it under high illumination (my phone camera) so who knows. The one I killed didn't have the scales and was roughly oval-shaped in the middle. Basically two giant antennae and I think only two pairs of big legs. Maybe even only one pair.

The main problem is that I'm getting paranoid about every little sound, I found it by turning off every single noisemaker in my room and just meditating and listening for the tiniest scratches it was making as it walked on, like, my notebooks, or velcro straps of my shoes, or occasionally lept and slammed into chairs and shit. It wasn't very quiet honestly.

Problem is that the meditative state I was in was basically half-sleeping, and now that I have my fans and boiler and shit on every time a pipe snaps or the fan wiggles I'm jolted awake in a cold sweat thinking there's another one under my bed.

I'm thinking of making a "Community" tab on the front page and next to the Boards list on the boards.
What this would basically entail would be:
If you've got something with a thread here or something in games/etc that is for Samachanners, send me an email with the name, description, information, times, etc that would be necessary to help people find when you do these things so they can participate as well.
So if you stream anime together on Fridays at 8pm EST, you can give me the information and what you want to say and I'll do my best to make it presentable so people who are looking for that sort of thing can find it easily.
Any objections? Think this is a bad idea?

 No.25842

>>25841
Ehhh…
It's not a bad idea per-se, though it doesn't fit the imageboard feel very much. I think the big problem with it is that I'm not sure that it would actually get anyone involved, plus I'm not sure how many new people show up that aren't aware of - say - a stream or whatnot. I wouldn't mind it, but we don't exactly have a ton of community stuff going on, at most the live-action streamer right now really. D&D isn't something you can really join or spectate so easily and I'm not totally sure what else there is besides streaming that you could start.

Like all these ideas it would work a lot better if the board were bigger

Therein lies the problem with everything I try, haha.
I don't have the time nor the effort to mercilessly advertise this website anymore so really all I can do is try to give Samachan a better way to do things together.

The Community page would help more so with the things that are communal and hard to find. Like the people who are playing FFXIV; if you're a new user you'd have to go looking for that specifically, and most people aren't going to think to look through the catalogs and in threads to find out if people on a website they're new too play games like that unless they are super interested in it and searching for it.

Yes, yes, yes, completely on board. Doesn't matter what, the site needs some way to be "unique" or at least offer something special compared to other imageboards so as to prompt people to keep coming here or at the very least to remain on people's minds. Because as you mentioned sometime in the past, there's no point if it's just a clone of another one (namely 4ch), so anything will do. Even if it fails it's better have a pile of failures than an empty desk (don't think that really made much sense). So go for it, although I agree with >>25843 about the form rather than an email.
Also don't die by overworking!

And to everyone else don't be so pessimistic, I was lurking /g/ yesterday and found someone posted this site https://peelopaalu.neocities.org/ which lists interesting sites and apparently sama is of the few imageboards there and like the only anime one listed and on that same thread someone linked to sama so it's not like the brand is completely dead or nobody visits anymore (though whether they do in a museum-like fashion where they just take a look for a few seconds and leave forever is another matter)

Wrong, they were one of the top eroge companies up until the turn of the millennium with the the demise of japanese personal computer, specifically the PC-98. This also coincides with the rise of console gaming/windows and a new wave of eroge developers like Key and Type-Moon which changes the direction and demands of eroge released that older devs like Elf and C's Ware failed to adapt to. This was also when I started to lose interest in VNs. I was crushed when ELF went bankrupt, it signalled the end of an era and now all their IPs are owned by shitty companies like DMM that have turned their famous IPs into browser games. When I was a kid and didn't know how to jerk off, but still had the urge, I rubbed around until I found out rubbing the top base of my penis would feel good by making my dick go up and down.
I used to masturbate like this, but could only cum while flaccid or semi-erect as I had to have my penis facing down.
The motion was sorta like how girls rub their clit, only I was rubbing the area above my dick to make it bounce.
For the most part though I just laid flat on my bed, put my arms and my side and rocked around rubbing my dick against the bed until I came. I didn't use to do my own bedding either.
I only taught myself how to masturbate normally when I was around 19 years old because that was when I came down off my medication and realized what I was doing was wrong for several reasons.
I'm telling you all this because I just jerked off to something I actually like and am going to bed soon. I could just jump into a fucking swamp I'm so happy and fucked.

Wow, what line of business are you in? Which area will your hotel be around? The only other places I went through was Shinsekai and Kuromon market which are also popular destinations. The more obscure place I went to was a shotengai north of the commercial district. If you are looking for places to eat or drink, you could try checking tabelog or gurunavi.

 No.26188

Not that kind of business, I just have to meet someone there to talk about random garbage, it's not like it's a company thing.

>what area

I dunno what areas Osaka even has, I'm totally blind. The hotel is apparently called Shinsaibashi Grand Hotel, so I assume Shinsaibashi is the area…maybe? Doesn't really matter if the places are 'obscure' since I haven't been there before anyways. Guess I'll check out the market, there must be food near marketplaces.

 No.26190

>>26188
Are you living in Japan or are you simply sightseeing? Well, your hotel is smack dab in the center of downtown Osaka so there will be a lot of things to see/do. The market I mentioned is only 10 minutes away from your hotel and if you go further down the street you will pass by Den Den Town and Shinsekai/Tsutenkaku. The alternative is to head to Dotonbori which is basically where everyone goes to besides Osaka castle. If you go by the Tsutenkaku route, you could also visit Tennoji Park and/or Abeno Harukas, this is basically the route I took when I was there. The other commercial district in Osaka would be Umeda which is near Osaka station and a detour from where you will be staying. The market itself sells food and you can also buy ingredients like seafood/beef and get them to prepare it for you.

 No.26201

>>26190
I'm not living in Japan no, and while I'm not there FOR sightseeing per-se I may as well get some done was my thought.
Thanks for the advice then, I think I'll go for Tsutenkaku and see from there if I have time for anything else. Tourism gives you only the tiniest overview of a place but it's still better than nothing I guess; you just always feel like you're missing out. Especially if you only have a day, if you have a fortnight or so you can at least sample most of the big name places. But that's the difference between a tourist and a native I suppose, and probably why people in tourist-heavy areas like Venice and iirc parts of Spain and Portugal hate tourists so much.

 No.26206

>>26201
What? So you are flying all the way to Japan only to meet someone for only 2 days? I hope you would be able to enjoy your time there at least, I'm wary about giving recommendations because people have different expectations. Feel free to share accounts of your trip if you'd like to. Yeah, seeing a place on from the perspective of a tourist is different from seeing it as a resident, I try my best to avoid places particularly geared for tourists. I can understand why natives would feel bothered by tourists, it might be hypocritical of me to say but there is just so much tourists in Japan that it becomes uncomfortable at times, the enjoyment you get from visiting places where there are lots of tourists are very different from places without or at least those with local tourists.

Why the hell is the metro in Osaka so damn expensive holy shit, 900 yen to go from the airport to my hotel what on absolute Earth

>you would think that a good public transport would naturally cost more
I don't know. Maybe this is a difference in how we think of things, but public transport by its very nature operates at a severe loss for whoever owns it, being as it were a service provided by the government and paid for with taxes. Like, the subway system where I live bleeds roughly three times as much money as it takes in. The entire point of public transport is to be fast, sure, but more importantly it's meant to be -public-, i.e. it's supposed to be accessible. Part of that is low fares.

Most of Japan's railways are actually run by for-profit private companies in a competitive market, though there's a strong regulatory scheme in place and some are owned in part or whole by municipal corporations or the government. The national network was really deeply in debt and fraught with mismanagement and corruption in the 70s and 80s and the quasi-privatization for the most part saved it and led to growth, though it's caused other problems typical of for-profit public goods like decreased service penetration and lack of direct public accountability when things do go wrong and consumer-facing prices inevitably rise with costs. Japan has the world's largest public debt so there's always political demand for that kind of thing.
The metro lines have been in the process of privatization over the years too with mostly decent results for the most part. The Osaka metro was actually only privatized like last year or something, interestingly enough and there are a few cities that refuse to do so or refuse to allow private interests majority ownership. I'm not sure if any of your route was on JNR track or if it was all Osaka metro, but either way compared to most cities in high-income countries 900 yen for a 30-40km train ride is pretty good. The pricing really isn't prohibitively high for the average user and in any case it's still usually cheaper than driving on the tollways every day. As far as market-provided public goods are concerned it's one of the stronger success stories. I'm sure high initial government investment and legacy management as well as not being burdened by IMF loan conditions has something to do with that, but that's another discussion for another place.
I-in case you cared about any of that.
