Use this thread for recommendations on types of anime, manga, LNs, VNs and Japanese shows and films.

For me I've got two subjects I'm looking for in regards to manga, films and anime;
1. Series starring or involving SAT (Special Assault Team, 特殊急襲部隊 Tokushu Kyūshū Butai)
The only good character in Elfen Lied was a SAT operative (Bando) and there was an extremely badass arc in Ajin involving SAT operatives attempting to combat immortal beings (pic related)
It really gives me a craving for more.

2. Series involving violent tax resistance.
Can take place in the modern era (I wager examples of it would be extremely rare though) or historic eras, with revolts such as Chichibu 1884, Jokyo in 1686 and Shimabara in 1637 as examples of tax revolts.
Kusa no ran ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1161431/ ) is a Japanese film about a peasant revolt and it's the closest thing I've found. However I'm unsure if taxation is involved and I've yet to find a version with English subtitles after looking for a while.

That's oddly specific, kyoudai

I assume you've seen Ghost in The Shell? If not check it out, the main cast are a special anti-terrorism unit and they do a lot of operator shit. There's even government conspiracy drama later on in the show.

Gunslinger Girl is also really good and has secret agents and loli assassins working for the Italian government. It's way more serious than the premise makes it sound and it pulls the tone off improbably well. The anime is great but the manga covers more material and is overall better.

Black Lagoon is just a bunch of dumb fun action about a mercenary group.

I haven't seen it but you might like Jormungand, it's about gun smuggler.

>Series involving violent tax resistance.

Uhhh that one I can't help you with sadly.

>violent tax resistance

OP is pissed and needs some references to study from.

The Jormungand anime is pretty neat, I'm actually reading the manga at the moment too.

It doesnt have much to do with SAT though, mostly just mercs and organized crime.

Neat. Never tried Inuyashiki, thanks.

Thanks but I'm looking for the SAT units specifically rather than just counter-terrorist units in general.

I watched the 1993 documentary Death & Taxes and read It's All About Power by Darrell Graf and have been interested in the subject since.
So I'm curious to see Japanese examples/takes on the subject now. Also historical peasant revolts in Japan aren't too well covered and would be interesting to see, too.

What are some good fantasy series, preferably not isekai or too dark in their setting, that are heavy into worldbuilding? I don't care about realism or anything as long as they're consistent about how they go about developing the world. I just got around to reading Mistborn and I really liked its style, but all the way through I was thinking how amazing it would be as a manga.

Record of Lodoss War maybe?
