Bump limits and reply limits on threads have been changed across the site. Instead of the massive 500/750 it used to be, it's now 150/225 for the Anime & 2D Media board and 250/300 for the Japan/Otaku Hobbies board. We're hopeful that this will encourage the creation of new threads instead of having everything sit in months/years old "general" threads.

Since the last one died off here's a new thread to post and coordinate in, though I dunno about doing summaries anymore.

Pirated sourcebooks and core rulebooks here (C-f for the system you're looking for) - https://thetrove.net/Books/

Pathfinder 1e near-complete SRD and wiki - https://www.d20pfsrd.com/

Pathfinder 1e Spheres subsystem wiki - http://spheresofpower.wikidot.com/

Decently complete 3.x reference site - https://dndtools.net/

Online character sheet editor - https://www.myth-weavers.com/

For anyone who has no experience in playing TTRPGs, good starter systems include:

- D&D 3.PF : Mostly Pathfinder 1e at this point in time, named 3.PF because it is almost totally compatible with D&D 3.5, itself almost totally compatible with D&D 3.0. My personal favourite iteration of D&D. Famous for extremely swingy numbers and a huge gap between optimization ceiling and floor and for the most brutal example of caster-martial disparity in any iteration of D&D.
- Pathfinder 2e : New system lacking polish and supplementary materials. Arguable as to whether it will survive long-term, but for now the number of people playing it remains decently high. Has a number of fairly innovative elements for the d20 system.
- D&D 5e : the single most played system at the current time, though somewhat simpler, and some would say dumber, than all other systems on this list; has a large community, so finding games is very easy
- Shadowrun 5e: the only non-d20 system on this list; much less polished than D&D iterations, but has a number of unique characteristics such as lack of levels and the use of dice pools. Decently active community and has a unique cyberpunk setting, with the system being built around 'shadowrunning', undercover James Bond action set in 2070.

someone wanted to join in, no??

We play Pathfinder 1e so if you can it would be useful to read through the Player's Handbook for that, or at least the Beginner Box Hero's Guide. Both of those should be in the Trove.
The "Combat" page and everything under "Basics and Ability Scores" in the SRD is good too but in my opinion a bit less intuitive than just reading through the handbook. Otherwise though the SRD is a good reference, as is https://www.aonprd.com/ which has mostly the same content in a different format.

After that you can read through the Spheres wiki if it interests you. The more you read the stuff the easier it gets to grasp the big picture. It's not really hard but there's a lot of stuff that even very regular players don't always remember off the top of their heads. Think about what kind of character you want to play too, both their role in the group (spellcaster, melee fighter, thief, etc) and the actual character itself you think would be fun to roleplay.

Oh yeah, also download MapTool version 1.5.10. The old versions are on the github releases page. I don't know how up to date the house rules are on Roll20 so you should ask the DM when he shows up about game-specific stuff.

What days and times do you guys have sessions and how do I join the roll20?

We play on Saturdays at 12:00 PM EST but we're thinking of doing it on Thursdays as well since everyone is quarantined. I think you need an invite link to the roll20 page but you may as well start with making an account and seeing if you can access https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/3372858/a-path-not-taken-a-memory-forgotten(We use Maptool to play now but the campaign info is still there)

Best thing to do imo is start with a character concept (this can be anything you want really) and then build towards that.

We're all at level 8 and playing with a fairly hefty amount of extra content and rules so feel free to ask for help when it comes to building your character if it's daunting. Here's a link to my character sheet to give you an idea of what you'll end up with mechanically https://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=1945497

Sessions are 1600 GMT Saturday but I'm trying to move them to 1600 GMT Thursday in an attempt to clear out my Saturday nights.

>How do I join the roll20

You need to make an account on roll20 and then I have to send a link, here: https://app.roll20.net/join/3372858/kgTJrQ

You can safely ignore all the posts except the chargen/houserule one and likely that too if you've never played before - I never did get around to rewriting the lore after the reboot and since we don't use roll20 anymore I don't know if I can really be assed.

If you would like you can drop into roll20 or something else at a time you're comfortable with (post it here at least 24 hours in advance along with a time zone so I know when it is) and I'll guide you through the basic steps of rolling a character up and also fill you in on any lore you might need

Read the Pathfinder Core Rulebook if you can and the 3.5e Player Handbook II too (it provides decent roleplaying tips in some of its chapters).

Are you able to help me out either 4:00 GMT Wednesday (24 hours from this post) or an hour before the session Thursday?

An hour may not be enough realistically speaking if you've never played, but either or will do, I have time 04:00 GMT as well as an hour before session. Do you have a basic idea of what you might want to play?

The basic premise of the party is pretty much that they're on the run from a conquered kingdom that's pretty much an expy of medieval Flanders and are seeking allies to reconquer it from an expy of Rome. They've just arrived at Elfland. It would be easiest to fit you in as an elf, but that doesn't mean you need to be. Just know that 1. halflings don't exist, 2. gnomes are close to extinct, and 3. elves are all-female.

The current party, in case you want to build towards it, consists of
1. Teutomate, socially awkward, former hikkiNEET, but prettyboy prince who's the actual candidate for a restored monarchy. Dedicated lightning element blaster and healer.
2. Lachrymarum, big titted oni girl who's even more socially inept but likes talking too much. Dedicated front-line controller with lots of HP and melee ability.
3. Matilde, former trader in charge of finances. Jewish as hell and often too Jewish for her own good. Generalist mage with a gun.
4. Gyliam, dedicated necromancer from the neighbouring Cessan republic, an expy of Switzerland. Has a giant skeleton that chicks don't dig, but he acts like they do.

Oh and by the way, join the server on the game page if at all possible. It's easier to discuss in length there, and it retains an archive so it's quicker to go back and check.

Experiencing constant light outs so I will be a bit late

Are we playing tomorrow as well?

It wasn't part of the plan, but I am technically free so…if everyone shows up, I guess so?

Well I'll put up the server and see what happens

Did anyone show up?

No only Shuko and the new guy

I am being overworked so i can't make it tomorrow but i can make it on saturday. Sorry guys and cute anonymous

Saturday it is
